Nebraska ready to get hot again on the recruiting trail, set for a star-studded weekend in Lincoln

Nebraska has Rivals No. 7 ranked recruiting class at this point in the 2027 recruiting cycle and Matt Rhule and the Huskers aim to catch fire again on the trail beginning this weekend.

Blue-chippers are flocking to Lincoln to spend more time with Rhule and company and Rivals has the latest on who’s expected and their thoughts on the Nebraska program.

“I’m really excited about Nebraska,” Chicago (Ill.) St. Patrick defensive lineman David Folorunsho stated. He is the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 13 prospect overall in the Rivals300.

“I like what they’re building there and the direction of the program. It feels like they’re putting the right pieces in place to compete at a high level, and the opportunity to be part of that and help bring Nebraska back to the top really stands out to me. I’m looking forward to getting up there and seeing it all firsthand.”

Nebraska is aiming to make a move on Notre Dame and Penn State among others for Folorunsho who also likes Miami and Tennessee to name a couple more.

Folorunsho is one of several elite players to know for the weekend.

New offensive line coach Geep Wade welcomes the best of the best

It’s a huge weekend at the point of attack, and the Huskers are near the top of the list for many of these ballyhooed targets.

+ Lake Charles (La.) Sam Houston five-star offensive lineman Albert Simien has always had Nebraska as one of his front-runners as the Huskers battle Texas A&M, LSU and Notre Dame among others.

+ Nebraska is one to watch for Loganville (Ga.) Grayson’s Jordan Agbanoma who ranks as the nation’s No. 5 interior offensive lineman and No. 63 prospect overall.

“What really excites me is getting to see the guys practice in real time, meeting the coaches again and getting back to Lincoln,” Agbanoma said. “What really stands out is that I have a good chance to play early and play the Big Ten as a freshman.

“Nebraska is definitely up there, I’d say the top four goes A&M, Nebraska, UGA, Florida. As of right now.”

+ Nebraska already leads for Locust Grove (Ga.) High four-star Timi Aliu. He visited at the end of January and quickly returns.

+ Grinnell (Cockeye) High four-star offensive lineman Will Slagle has spent a lot of time in Lincoln during his process.

“I’m excited to meet Coach Wade. I’ve always liked their school and program. I do also like the fact that it’s an ag school.

“I think Rhule runs a program that is progressively getting better and better each year. I also do love the fan base.”

Nebraska trending with one receiver, looking to make a move with another

Nebraska’s prized quarterback commit Trae Taylor will be back on campus helping recruit these talented playmakers.

Miami (Fla.) Palmetto receiver Kaden Howard says that Nebraska leads. The Rivals Prediction Machine reflects that as I join colleagues Chad Simmons and Greg Smith in predicting the Huskers.

“What’s exciting about Nebraska is just the vibe around everything right now,” Howard said. “It feels different. When I talk to the coaches it’s not just hype they’re real with me. They break down exactly how I would fit, what they expect from me, and how they plan to build this class. I respect that a lot. The fan base is crazy too. Nebraska football is serious out there. The whole state supports the team, and playing in that kind of environment every Saturday would be special. Not every program can offer that. I got people showing me love and I didn’t even get there yet!”

As a junior Howard only needed 25 receptions to rack up 510 yards and seven touchdowns.

Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel Rivals300 receiver Quentin Burrell kicks off his spring swing at Nebraska.

“I’ve heard great things about the program and campus so I want to go check it out for myself,” Burrell said. “Knowing they have a top quarterback and are trying to bring top-level players in is exciting. Looking forward to getting a chance to see what Husker football is all about and how they see me making an impact.

En route to a state title as a junior, Burrell turned 67 receptions into 1,139 yards and 16 touchdowns. In his high school career, Burrell has 142 catches for 2,396 yards and 34 scores.

Touted defensive players hitting the Huskers campus

A couple of the Midwest’s best defensive backs are pumped to be in Lincoln.

+ “The coaches excite me the most!” Chicago Mount Carmel four-star safety Tavares Harrington said. “They are heavily recruiting me and have good, experienced coaches! Also just continuing to build a relationship with the coaches and watching the coaches coach their new guys. The program stands out! Nebraska is all about football and has players who want it and those are the type of guys I want to surround myself with.”

+ Euclid (Ohio) High’s highly-recruited four-star cornerback Kei’Shjuan Telfair is someone Nebraska views as a special player.

“They stand very high right now recruiting me as DB/receiver and getting me back at kick return and all that good stuff,” Telfair said. “The relationship with Coach (Daikiel) Shorts and Coach Ant (Anthony Johnson), they’re great guys and I love the gameplan they got for me and I just can’t wait to get down there this weekend.”

+ Nebraska has been on the rise with Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s Prep four-star linebacker Brandon Lockley Jr.

“Looking forward to getting back out there to see the coaches again and meet some of the new staff,” Lockley said. “It was a great game-day experience, now looking forward to sitting in the linebacker room and watching practice. Last time was a quick trip during Thanksgiving. We’re going to get out and see some of Lincoln. I’m excited about potentially playing for Nebraska because the dedication the coaches have to winning, the history of Nebraska football, and getting to play in front of a great fanbase.

I’ve always been really interested in Nebraska since my offer. This spring visit will definitely give me a better idea.”

+ Nebraska is a strong contender for two of Kansas City’s best in Blue Springs South edge Prince Goldsby and North Kansas City linebacker Kobe Rhymes.

+ I like the way it’s trending with Nebraska and Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star cornerback Jailen Hill. Colleague Greg Biggins says Washington, USC and North Carolina are a few others to keep an eye on.

+ It’s a good d-line group in addition to Folorunsho and Goldsby. Four-star edge Keysan Taylor is a major visitor and four-star Zahmar Tookes quickly dials up a visit after receiving his offer less than two weeks ago. Nebraska will be happy to see Spain Park (Ala.) High’s Marquis Evans and Loganville (Ga.) Grayson’s Waylon Wooten quickly returns after making it at the end of January.

“Nebraska was phenomenal,” he said of that experience.” I enjoyed myself and the whole team. Everyone was very welcoming and the football atmosphere was incredible.”
