Landen Davidson commitment: What does it mean for Nebraska?

2024 IOL Landen Davidson commits to Nebraska

Nebraska has landed commitment No. 14. Landen Davidson, from Broomfield (Colo.) picked up an offer from Nebraska on Sunday following his strong camp performance. The next weekend, he was in Lincoln for an official visit.

On Sunday night, Davidson committed to The Big Red because he felt like part of the family during his visit and he really likes how he fits as an interior offensive lineman for Matt Rhule and his offense.

Here are our thoughts on what the Landen Davidson commitment means to Nebraska and the 2024 class:

1. You really have to credit Matt Rhule and his staff. The summer camp evaluation process allowed the Nebraska staff to get eyes on and work with many recruits who got offers from Nebraska. Davidson is part of that group of players, and the Huskers have first-hand experience of seeing him move and working with him (as does Landen of the Nebraska staff).

2. It’s great to see Nebraska continue to get into Colorado. It’s a border state thing, but also it’s excellent for Nebraska to get into Colorado and pull players away from the Buffaloes. The re-offer by Deion Sanders and CU didn’t move the needle for Davidson once Nebraska offered and after he took the visit.

3. Davidson was listed as an offensive tackle by On3 until very recently. Rhule and his staff told Davidson on his trip that he would be playing inside. They shared that with Davidson and told him how perfect he was for how he plays the game for the style of offense they want to run at Nebraska. Davidson is embracing the move and said he even played center in middle school.

4. Davidson came in at a very solid height and weight this last weekend in Lincoln for his official visit. Nebraska requires all of the recruits to get their height in their bare feet, and there have been a lot of complaints from recruits about Nebraska short-changing the height of several visitors. Davidson was happy with his measurements: 6-foot-4 and 312 pounds.

5. There is a lot to like about Davidson’s film. While he does line up as an offensive tackle, he has the size and strength to move inside. Once he has his hands on you, it’s game over. He has tremendous strength and can just throw people to the ground.

6. Davidson, Jake Peters, and Gibson Pyle are an excellent trio of IOL for Nebraska to work with in the 2024 class. They are all excellent athletes who can get after people and take pride in finishing blocks. They are very physical.

7. There has been an emphasis on athleticism by this coaching staff basically since head coach Matt Rhule got the job and picked up the phone to make his first contact with recruits. While Davidson isn’t a skill position guy, athleticism often gets missed when it’s a Hogmolly. Davidson ran a sub-five-second 40 earlier in the month.

(Pessimist Mode): We are recruiting at a Division 3 level right now. We might not win another game until the year 2035. The recruiting sights are gonna give all these guys rating bumps just for clicks from our stupid fans. In reality they probably aren’t even good enough to ride the pine at UNK.

(Kool-Aid Mode): Gone are the days of massive underachievement from this program. We are going to be the premier developmental factory in the Big 10. Rhule knows exactly what he wants. We are gonna mold these guys into complete studs.
