It's clear that this player stands out to us as one of the top players in the state; we aren't taking many Nebraska kids but we have been recruiting him all along. It's also clear we likely see something else in him than a lot of others do not.

His offer list

It will be interesting to see what interest he gets now, from both other schools and the ratings services

I wish I knew what we saw. He doesn't seem to have much of a frame to grow into to me and didn't really stand out on his squad like you'd hope a D1 guy would.

At the coach's clinic Coach Rhule talked at length the type of football player they're recruiting. Measurables were compared to the NFL average at the position. A few other Nebraska coaches echoed this during our other clinics they've presented at.

The key items they are looking for
1. Height/weight and potential to grow into body frame. They want players by year 3 to hit the NFL standard.
2. Explosiveness. They're looking at shuttle, 10 yard, vert, 1-step vert, 2-step vert, broad jump. They're also looking at highlights from other sports like basketball, track, wrestling. They love 2-sport athletes.
3. Family and circle of friends. Looking for high quality character kids.
4. Film. If an athlete is skilled enough on film and has good measurables in #1 and #2, they'll get an offer. Then it's on coaches to develop him into a D1 player. They'd rather have #1 and #2 before great film.
5. Ability to play multiple positions and special teams.

In this case, I think he had good testing numbers and showed he can play DE/OLB and long snap.

It's weird to only see 5 offers of that variety. Also no Cockeye State offer is weird.

However. We do need to remember that offers are a self reported thing.

NU is obligated to take local kids due to they are glue guys who help teach the tradition and work ethic to incoming players. It’s made up but the pancake crowd requires it. It reduces headaches for the coaches and AD having to deal with the local yokal blowback. As long as it is kept to a minimum it’s fine by me. Now why they didn’t take one of the guys who went to ISU instead is the hard part to understand. Plus he will be at NU like the others for 5-6 years. Shrug
