Still remember him just berating his agent when shit was going south here and giving the "what the hell did you get me into" as if his 114th ranked scoring defense wasn't part of the problem.

I heard this story fifth hand or so... but apparently his agent and Eichorst sold to him that he would come and be Riley's replacement with an internal promotion to HC here at Nebraska. But then Eichorst gets canned and a new AD takes over with the season going so awful and he understood "the plan" wasn't going to happen. Gets his agent on the horn and just unloads on him as if anyone who had the internet couldn't have figured out you needed to have a good year or at least not lose to Northern Illinois at home. Riley gets fired after Cockeye and so does Diaco and he thought it was bad on his name, when really his defenses play was what did it.

I remember running into him at the airport shortly after he had been hired. It was a few weeks before the Friday Night Lights camp, and we were all still excited about him.
He was surprisingly friendly to me and chatted with me for a bit. However, I remember him talking about the upcoming FNL camp and he named the guys who were all going to be there - Bookie, Christian Tutt and Micah Parsons. I remember being shocked that he dropped them by name, because I was pretty sure that he shouldn't have been saying the kid's names because they hadn't signed yet. But maybe he wasn't concerned talking with a random guy in the Omaha airport...

But I doubt there was any NCAA rule about talking with fans in person lol
