Baseball Inferior NCAA Regionals Thread

Quite frankly, part of it is just having the "dudes" to beat some of these nationally name brand teams. The Big 10 is not attractive at all if you're also being recruited by one of those other national schools.
Bunch of garbage. We had the dudes to go a run and they shat themselves. Little Rock and Troy sure are national schools 🤣

Not sure needing the dudes argument holds up with the success teams are having with little resources and NIL. Murray St last year, multiple small clubs this year in Supers. It’s more about peaking and getting hot at the right team. Under Bolt, we tend to peak during the conference tourney and fizzle out a week later.

I suppose we'll see the next time we get Murray State or Troy in whatever Regional we're in. The difference in depth talent was pretty clear against Ole Miss.

I don’t buy it. We lost that game because we forgot how to field and couldn’t get a big hit.

It would be one thing if we brought our A game and got outmatched. We were awful all weekend and still only lost by 3 runs in the two games with multiple errors/unearned runs and cold bats. We didn’t lose because of talent, we lost because in the highest pressure games of the year our team fell apart and played like crap.

We can say Bolt has consistently done a nice job with the program (which he has), but his teams consistently shit the bed in Regionals and don’t play well….with the exception of the Arkansas regional few years back.

Minus the fact that our bullpen looked completely out matched once Horn was done and Blach never stood a chance? Anyone could have guessed how that would have gone after seeing Blach vs Oregon.

Yeah, and that 2021 postseason had quite a few now big leaguers on the roster. That's big boy talent.

We lost 3 series all season. at Auburn, outmatched. at Oregon, 1-2 by a total of 2 runs. at Ohio State, bitch slapped.

Swept #12 USC and went 7-0 to finish the season to earn a Top 16 seed when 99.99% of people had written us off. Those 7 games had as much pressure as any other throughout the season considering what was at stake, opponents be-damned.

As you said, play clean baseball like we did all season. Very likely our odds of advancing was extremely high. You can't give high quality competition more than 27 outs, especially in the post-season.

Bullpen didn’t lose the Ole Miss game. Carey not catching a routine fly ball to get out of the inning led to 2 additional runs. Couldn’t score with 1 out and bases loaded or no outs and 2 on in 9th.

Our defense and hitting was a disaster all weekend. We didn’t play clean baseball.

And Timmerman getting roped off of an 88 mph pitch down the shitter on the first pitch.

This was brought to my attention, but I haven't checked its accuracy. From 2024-2026, Nebraska is the only P4 conference baseball team to play in 3 straight Regionals where 3 P4 teams were in.

2024 had 2 Regionals with 3 P4 teams; 1 other and ours at Oklahoma State (+ Florida)
2025 had 5 Regionals with 3 P4 teams; 4 others and ours at North Carolina (+Oklahoma)
2026 had 3 Regionals with 3 P4 teams; 2 others and ours in Lincoln (+ Ole Miss & Arizona State)

Nebraska is the only program to play in 3 straight of them?

My note - I believe 6 of these 10 hosts (1 seeds from 2024-2026) advanced to Supers. Could be off, not sure? UNC only 1 of our 3 to advance. So, we're due to advance, lmao.

This is just absurd

The bullpen walked FIVE FREAKING GUYS IN A ROW. Carey's missed popup wasn't even in fair territory.

The bullpen lost the Ole Miss game.

What nobody talks about is we had Federico down 0-2 with 2 outs, and a guy on 1B...

6th inning went - K on 4 pitches, 0-2 single, K on 3 pitches and we get cute against Federico.

Ty was on fire in the 6th, till slider, slider, slider on Federico with an 0-2 count, and the rest is history. Had he put away Federico, or even Fawley on another 0-2 count but this one ended up a BB, it's a whole different ball game.

I'm always conflicted on this. On one hand why should the highest seed not get the break for all the good work they did to get there? But on the other, do you really want to fuck over the underdog stories who earned their spot in supers?

I'd be curious to know what the ratings look like in college baseball. My prior is that big brands draw the eyes but given that it's a pretty regional sport does a Stony Brook or Fresno making a run pop ratings?
I love the underdog stories. I was looking at it from an Omaha economy standpoint I suppose. For example we are going to lose Georgia or Miss State and have a Little Rock or Troy here for sure. I just assume the first two would have way more fans here, but I could be off.

I don't think we should re-seed but I'm always curious on it when stuff like this happens. I guess that's why they have the bracket.

I'd be curious to see the estimated travel for a one off CWS from Troy/Little Rock vs. usual for others. I just don't know and could be convinced either way on who pulls bigger numbers in a given year.
