And like all message board polls these results will definitively reflect the unequivocal truth of this matter.

Need an option that has both Donavan Raiola and the O Line players. Both have sucked rotten eggs.

Edit to add that Dylan being immobile doesn't help. He does need to get the ball out quicker at times, but IMO he is rattled expecting quick pressure/hits on him, and B1G defenses know the book is to take away our short passing game, and our O Line isn't good enough to sustain a running game. Dylan needs to be better for sure, but give him a good O Line and it greatly mitigates his biggest deficiencies.

Matt Rhule

Considered putting Rhule on this list, and suppose that’s fair. He’s the top dog. But assuming he isn’t meddling with Holgo and the offense, I have no evidence of this other than mere speculation, then I see Holgorsen as the CEO of our offense.

Personally, I don’t see Holgorsen or Rhule being the main problem as of right now. But… if Rhule doesn’t fire Donnie, then he becomes our primary problem. IMO

I will add that, in the chance that Dylan gets injured, we will then get to see how Lateef does in the same pressure (as in, almost constant guys in his face) situations that Dylan faces. I may happen where Dylan gets injured, and having a mobile (albeit very young) QB with what seems like a very good arm would be interesting to see at the very least.

I read this as "offensive line ineptitude" and was like, this is the easiest poll ever
Still think it's Donovan but Holgo is close second. Rhule would be #1 if he were an option.

Players, lol, if Minnesota had our players and we had theirs (assuming enough time for "development") they would have waxed our ass even more thoroughly

Yes, they both sucked. But who is more responsible for that? The poll question says “most responsible”. If you think our current players could be better with a different Oline coach then obviously Donnie is your answer.

If you think Donnie can…

A. Actually get better players and if he can…

B. That would make him look like a good coach or better coach.

Then our talent on the oline is your answer.

This is my general opinion…

Yeah, elusiveness/pocket presence is a weaker part of Dylan's game, & Holgorsen varies between really good stuff and WTF game plans, but if the OL was just above average, neither of those other things are an impediment to us winning at a top 10-20 level.

I think it is really hard to tell. Donovan hasn't fielded any actual "good" O Lines so far. That is telling. But also, outside of a handful of O Linemen we have had with Donovan as O Line coach, the rest of the players have mostly looked lke dogshit.

We have a combo of a ton of whiffs by O line players, where they block the wrong guy or no one. But also a ton of just get run around or bulldozed over leading to immediate pressure on the QB. I think it is a combo of both poor quality O Line players overall (which a lot of that is due to recruiting, and Donovan is and has been our O Line coach for 3.5 years now so that would be a lot on him) and poor O Line coaching.

We won't know any real answers ever on this unless Donovan gets this current group (or possibly next years group) to play a lot better, or if we get a different O Line coach in and he turns what amounts to this current group into a good or at least average bunch.

Well, it kinda sounds like you’re saying it’d be interesting to see what happens if DR gets injured. 😳 Just kinda sounds that way…

I don't want him to get injured, but I think the chances are pretty decent he does in these last 5 games.

Rhule and Co aren't going to demote Dylan. So this oft asked question or assumption that Lateef would do better than Dylan will only be answered if Dylan gets hurt and Lateef is forced in to action. Which, late in the season for a true Frosh to be forced in as the starting QB, is a tall task.

In an ideal world, Dylan would be more mobile, but even then, people would have issues/questions if all other things were the same. He isn't
mobile enough", etc, etc. Backup QB is always the most popular player on the team, especially after losses or when things aren't going well. I do think Lateef may be pretty darn good, but we don't have the sample size to say the least, to know that.

I think you answered your own question.

Yeah. O Line coach has to both recruit and coach the players. Both the coach and the players can suck, but more of that falls to the O Line coach if he can't get good enough players.
