Huskers Collect Four All-America Honors on Wednesday

Nebraska track and field opened the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field with four athletes earning All-America honors.

Javelin school-record holder Keyshawn Strachan garnered his second-career first team honor tonight, placing fifth with a distance of 76.44m (250-9). Arthur Petersen joined him in the top eight of the javelin, throwing 75.50m (247-8), and claiming his second first-team recognition and fourth all-america honor overall. Dash Sirmon rounded out the group, finishing 14th (69.17m, 226-11) and becoming a three-time all-american.

In the shot put, Maxwell Otterdahl continued his impressive post-season performance, earning his sixth all-america honor overall and fourth in this event, throwing 18.55m (60-10 ½) for 19th.

Till Steinforth competed in the first round of the decathlon, sitting in 21st place with 3330 points. He placed third in the long jump (7.38m, 24-2 ½) and fifth in both the 100m (10.72) and the shot put (14.68m, 48-2).

The women are set to start competition tomorrow with Berlyn Schutz leading off Nebraska’s action in the 1500m at 6:21 p.m. (CT). Field events will be streamed on ESPN+ throughout the evening, while running events can be watched on ESPN.

Till Steinforth was sitting in second place in the Decathlon and on the final event of the day for him, the 400 meters, he pulled up with an apparent leg injury and was unable to complete the event.....dropping him to 21st. He was one of the favorites to possibly win the decathlon title.

Nebraska track and field’s Maddie Harris headlined a group of four Huskers who secured all-america honors on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Two Huskers competed in the javelin as Harris finished fifth and claimed first-team honors, her fourth career all-america award, as she threw 58.36m (191-6). Eniko Sara became a two-time all-american, finishing 15th and hitting a mark of 52.18m (171-2).

Kalynn Meyer and Kellyn Kortemeyer finished 17th and 19th respectively in the shot put. Meyer went 16.66m (54-8) to earn honorable-mention honors and claim her third career all-america award. Kortemeyer was named an all-american for the first time, throwing 16.58m (54-4 ¾).

Berlyn Schutz was the lone Husker on the track competing in the 1500m. She ran 4:16.15 for 24th and was named an honorable mention all-american.

Till Steinforth withdrew from the decathlon event due to an injury sustained during last night’s 400m race.

Tyus Wilson and Desire Tonye-Nyemeck will be the first Huskers to compete tomorrow, taking on the high jump at 6:30 p.m. (CT). Each event has a livestream on ESPN+ throughout the championships, with television coverage tomorrow on ESPN2 starting at 7 p.m. (CT).

I actually saw that live. Looked like a cramp. They were saying before the 400 that he was already behind farther than he should have been because of a poor high jump.
