Welcome to The Platinum Board. We are a Nebraska Husker news source and fan community.
Sign Up Now!I talked to a pro scout and it's still in there for a couple reasons. They know a huge bench doesn't translate into a good football player, but it helps determine workout dedication and overall strength of an athlete. In order to have a decent bench, it's something that take years to develop, and with bench being a universal lift that nearly everyone completes when stepping into a gym, it's a good measurement. 40s, shuttles, board jumps can be improved in a few month of training for a pro day or combine, however, bench cannot. Strength needs to be measured at the combine/pro day and Olympic lifts, squats, deadlifts, incline bench are too risky of lifts, especially those who have never performed those lifts for an extended period of time.It really annoys me that we are still measuring and talking about bench reps. It serves no purpose.
The NFL combine knows this but they still keep doing it for TV ratings.
It's fine to keep bench. It's the measuring of reps that is dumb.I talked to a pro scout and it's still in there for a couple reasons.
