He hasn't been good. IMO, I give it somewhat of a pass because the TD catch by Minnesota was one of the best catches you'll see all year. But, at the same time his job on that play was to not let the WR get outside of him. Instead he bit on the original move, which there was no need to because it was into Javin Wright's zone and he was there.

Some may think this is harsh, but IMO, letting that WR get outside of him in that moment is as bad as Matt O'Hanlon in Blacksburg.

I was at the game. I'm not sure if it was visible to you guys on TV but he was chirping a LOT which made it worse

I'm not going to complain about the defense. Might be the best unit on either side of the ball in the division. I think the kid is acquitting himself pretty well for a 5'9" sophomore. If he was two inches taller he'd be at ole miss.

Probably got the two best receiving corps on the schedule out of the way. McCarthy is the only good qb on the schedule left. Any defense that has to watch it's QB drop two snaps, fuck up one, and botch a handoff is going to eventually let the dam break. Especially at altitude.

I feel like White sends a lot more pressure and asks more of his DBs than Busch did, mainly because Busch had to get them from super shit to an ok defense, so I think context is important. I don't know if he's been appreciably worse than last year even if the on paper stats suggest he has been, but it could also be he's had a rough couple games which happens to a true soph from time to time.

Agree with all this, but there's always areas to improve, even for a D that looks like it'll be top 25. I'm greedy, I want us to be top 10.

They're abysmal at 3rd down, have to get better there.

It's weird that our 3-3-5 has trouble with pass D, but they need it to improve.

It'd be great to average 2 takeaways/game, but I'd be happy with 1.5. Right now they're at 1/game.

it's not weird at all. the 3-3-5 was created to country physical running teams and White has said several times he'll stop the run at all costs

of all the things to complain about with this team the defense shouldn't even be on the radar. the only thing I'd like to see improve is forcing more turnovers, but having such an inept offense probably limits how many risks they can take

Complain is a strong word. Identifying areas for improvement.

Just because they’ve done well doesn’t mean they’re immune to criticism. I guarantee you they’re working on 3rd downs and turnovers this week. Second, their problems seem much more fixable than the offense. Do you really need a new thread explaining that if Jeff Sims just reduces the amount of the times he turns the ball over our offense will be in much better shape?
