I feel like 99.999999% of people who talk about the rule just repeat shit. I have no idea tbh. Doug McDermott got to walk on at Pickle Smoochers as a NPOY candidate/maybe even defending NPOY so I think YOLO is the real rule

I don't think they have to be put on scholarship but I think they still count as a scholarship for # of players. I think that's why Daddy McDermott paying for school was such a news worthy event. Greg was so generous to pay the 50k/year out of his multi million $ salary.

My recollection is that they were over if Grant Gibbs stayed so Doug became a walk on

They got a waiver for Dougie because of the Gibbs situation. A son of a coach can be a walk on and not count toward the 85 as long as he has no other D1 offers
