Those of you who post (or used to) on the Main Board might remember Bucky as the Cockeye fan who liked trolling the balls off of Husker homeboarders. last weekend his wife and 4 kids were in a car accident, with his wife and 3 year old daughter killed. The other 3 kids were all seriously injured

Heart breaking news. Haven't been on tMB much these days but when I use to be Bucky was one of the better trolls/posters. Smart funny guy. I can't imagine what he is going through. Sent some prayers and money his way.

One last bump for me everyone. Thanks to all who have donated so far, up to 97K now which is incredible. One last push, hoping we can get it to the 100k mark. Per Bucky's last update, 2 kids were able to go home and oldest daughter is still in the hospital but doing well, has had several surgeries though.

Off topic, but do you have to pay taxes on things you receive through a Go-Fund-Me? Like.....could you start one and give your kids $50,000 in a gofundme to bypass tax rules?

@Jim14510 would be a better guy to give you a proper answer, but it smells like a "gift" to me and if that's how they treat it, then it would be subject to those non-taxable limits ($17K this year, taxable thereafter) ???

Not taxable. Person giving would have to do a gift tax return. Anything over gift tax exemption goes towards estate exemption.

Just read tonight's update. Two of the kids are home, the oldest daughter is out of the trauma center and into the pediatric ward, and ho lee cow did the tMB (and tPB) deliver: they're over $100K in donations. Incredible outpouring of support.
