Part of me thinks picking a 3 win team to end up ranked will make ya look like the smartest guy in the room & stat wise we should’ve been a 7 win team. Not a crazy thing to bet on so there may be some genuine belief we end up ranked in ‘22
Historically, most teams who have won that little but had advanced metrics suggesting they should be better have significantly improved the next year.

Nebraska was ranked 29th in ESPN's FPI ranking at the end of teh season despite being 3-9. We added a good QB and a bunch of good assistants. Plus we have an easier schedule. Putting us in a preseason top 25 really isn't that big of a stretch.

Yep, so from that regard it makes sense. But also, historically most teams aren't Nebraska who can't help but shit their pants every season.
Yeah. I'd also like to know about returning starters in those teams vs Nebraska. Lots of new faces in Lincoln that will need to immediately contribute

Agreed. I do think there will be at least a little addition by subtraction, especially at qb and hopefully most of the rest show they're what they were hyped up to be.

I'm generally not a big believer in addition by subtraction, but if Thompson can avoid running the absolutely devastating turnover play that fucking destroys all our momentum on a regularly basis, you'd think that is an improvement.

AM has so many games where he’s just neutral, he’ll have whole halves where he doesn’t do anything & u can expect any positive play to be followed by a fumble. Even if the offense is moving the ball well, he evens it out with his inability to throw thru windows in the redzone.

Thompson will consistently have more of a positive impact, especially since his confidence doesn’t waver like AM. He’ll also probably have a couple games where the gunslinger gets him into trouble but I’ll take a bad Brett favre performance over the milquetoast AM bs in the Purdue game.

Fornelli predicted 5-7 on the cover 3 podcast.

Wins over NW, North Dakota, Georgia Southern, Minnesota and Indiana

Of all the teams I would pick us to beat, Minnesota is not one of them
To be fair to Fornelli it was an off the cuff prediction and he prefaced it by saying trying to predict Nebraska is absolutely impossible.

He also said that Thompson was a slight upgrade from Martinez because of his ability to throw the ball down field.

NW (Ireland)
North Dakota
Georgia State
OU

- BYE Week #1 -

Indiana
@ Rutgers
@ Purdue

- BYE Week #2 -

Illinois
Minnesota
@ Michigan
Wisconsin
@ Cockeye

- Oct 7th is Nebraska's first true Road Game and 6th game of the season. For perspective by this week in 2021 Nebraska had already played 7 games and 3 Road Games, 2/3 of those were vs. Top 10 teams in stadiums with a capacity of roughly Rutgers + Purdue combined.

- The Bye Weeks are actually good this year, unlike 2021 terrible locations.

- If Frost can't win 8 or more games with this cupcake schedule (OU new HC, first season in 7 years without Ohio State on the schedule, etc) he needs fired Saturday after the Cockeye game

slight upgrade from the QB that lost the NCAA record for 1 score games vs. the unanimous #1 strength of schedule (likely hardest in school history)

slight upgrade at QB + cupcake schedule = "5-7"

god damnit Fornelli don't make me hate you
