Bowl Games thread

You know...the only thing that doesn't piss me off about missing so many bowls in a row? We don't have to deal with fucking opt-outs.

These bowl teams aren't even recognizable to the teams that got them there.

We have coaches moving on super early now. We have athletes hitting the portal prior to bowl games. We have opt-outs galore - some with good reason and some delusional as fuck.

Bowl Season isn't what it once was. That makes me sad, because it was my favorite 3-ish weeks of the year.

12 team playoff fixes a lot of it. Hopefully we can be a top 12 team sooner rather than later.

The way it's gone, I'm more and more a proponent of Leach's 64 team playoff theory. Would make things matter. Aim for 16 games played for the champ, back it out from there.

Go back to old school scheduling - less cupcakes, get to conference sooner, conference champions matter more than national ranking - then get into the playoffs. Would be so fun and bring meaning back to the entirety of bowl season. 1 tune up, then 10 game conference schedule. Crossover with a similarly ranked team in another conference standings as a first round play-in to whittle it down from 64 to your 32 (B1G and Pac12, SEC and ACC, G5's, all match up instead of B1G W vs B1G E during Corona Season). Top X from each conference skip the play in games - "first round bye" - seed after play ins...and let's go.

Although, we've even started to see certain guys opt out of playoff games. Not near as many - but still some. I think something like what's described above would be AWESOME.

I get the sentiment for more than 12 teams, but on any given year are more than 12 teams worthy of it? I could see going to 16 at most.

After 16 teams, you will run into a bunch of teams with 4 losses...I guess some of those lower teams could have had players that got hurt but are now coming back?

In the end...I have no idea what is best.

With 48- First Round would look SOMETHING like this - Not perfect, I just slapped it together. Some conferences might be getting too big of benefit doubt. Moved AAC up to make a Power 6. So you'd have G4 play for 1 conference champ spot from each. I think this would be a blast.

G4 Champ Game PLAY IN GAMES
UTSA vs North Texas
Ohio vs Toledo
Fresno vs Boise
James Madison vs Troy

Matched Up First Round PLAY IN GAMES
Miss St vs Duke
Texas vs Navy
Ole Miss vs Syracuse
South Carolina vs Purdue
Notre Dame vs Cockeye
Illinois vs Oregon St
UCLA vs Houston
Baylor vs Tulane
Okie St vs UCF
Texas Tech vs Cincinnatti
Pitt vs SMU
Coastal vs BYU

Waiting in Round 2 if you have to Double Bye it to make it work numerically - Reseed based off of Play In Results then play it down to 1
USC
Washington
Clemson
UNC
TCU
K-State
Michigan
Ohio State
Georgia
Alabama
Penn St
Utah
Tennessee
LSU
Oregon
Florida St

EDIT: Had LSU twice - Miss St instead of LSU in play in based on CFP ranking

Agreed and I don't find it to be outside the realm of possibility to do this. If not 64 try for 32.

CFB is pushing the boundaries of its product in the last few years with NIL, the transfer portal and conference realignment which have changed the game in ways no one would have expected AND is also changing it for the worse in many ways. It would be good for them to mitigate what is ruining the game with something that would (1) fix the broken bowl games, (2) keep players playing through the post season, (3) keep the fans happy and (4) create revenue.

ROUND 2 MATCHUPS - ASSUMED and trying to matchup Conference matchups so you don't have a plethora of one conference LIKELY represented. Also not replaying big Rivalry matchups if possible...

USC vs BYU
Washington vs Oregon St
Clemson vs Tulane
UNC vs South Carolina
TCU vs Fresno
K-State vs Okie St
Michigan vs Troy
Ohio State vs Ohio
Georgia vs Texas Tech
Alabama vs UTSA
Penn St vs Pitt
Utah vs UCLA
Tennessee vs Ole Miss
LSU vs Miss St
Oregon vs Texas
Florida St vs Notre Dame

Probably a ridiculous question because I haven't been watching USC/ND, but is Satterfield coaching in today's game?
