Huskers Sweep Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team swept Lipscomb 25-13, 25-21, 25-15 in front of a Lipscomb school-record crowd of 4,235 at Allen Arena.

The Huskers improved to 3-0, while the Bisons dropped their season opener.

Taylor Landfair and Harper Murray led a balanced Husker attack with seven kills each. Landfair did it on nine swings (.778). Skyler Pierce recorded six kills in her first collegiate action. Andi Jackson had five kills and two blocks, and Manaia Ogbechie posted five kills on nine swings. Rebekah Allick recorded four kills, while Allie Sczech had three.

Bergen Reilly started the match and had 11 assists and an ace. Campbell Flynn played the final two sets and recorded 22 assists. Olivia Mauch had a match-high 14 digs, and Laney Choboy added 12.

Nebraska hit .315 and Lipscomb hit .043. The Huskers had a big advantage in kills (42-22) and digs (43-25). Ten different Huskers had a kill in the match.

Set 1: Murray, Landfair and Jackson combined for four kills in a row to break a 3-3 tie. An ace by Murray made it 8-3, and another Landfair kill put NU up 9-3. Landfair's fifth kill of the set, and a kill and block by Allick increased NU's lead to 17-7. Two kills by Murray had the Huskers up 21-10. Nebraska won 25-13, hitting .444 to Lipscomb's .042.

Set 2: Ogbechie saw the first game action of her Husker career and put down NU's first kill of the set with an assist from Flynn, who also started set two. NU went on a 4-0 run to go up 8-4 with Landfair posting two kills, Murray one, and Jackson serving an ace during the run. Murray tallied her seventh kill, and Ogbechie and Landfair stuffed a Lipscomb attack to make it 10-5. The Bisons pulled within 13-11, but Jackson and Landfair put down kills to spark a 4-0 run that made it 17-11. Lipscomb cut the lead to four at 18-14, but Pierce recorded her first career kill for a 19-14 advantage. Two more Pierce kills increased NU's lead to 22-15. A Jackson kill earned set point at 24-18, but the Bisons scored three in a row to pull within 24-21. But a service error ended the set in Nebraska's favor, 25-21.

Set 3: Sczech started the third set and registered a kill on her first swing. Lipscomb battled to a 6-6 tie, but Ogbechie and Flynn had kills, and another from Pierce and two by Sczech made it 12-9. Sczech and Jackson combined for a block before a Jackson kill made it 15-10. Sigler and Pierce added kills for a 19-11 lead, and Ogbechie had three kills down the stretch as NU won 25-15.
