Huskers Hit for Season High in Sweep of Illinois

LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team cruised to a 25-11, 25-15, 25-14 win in front of 8,559 at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Thursday night.

The Huskers moved to 23-0 (13-0 Big Ten) with their 14th straight sweep. Nebraska improved its consecutive sets won streak to 43, and the Huskers hit .488 to go over .300 for the 14th straight match, extending their school record in the rally scoring era. It was the highest hitting percentage by the Huskers since 2018, and the highest hitting percentage by an NU team against a Big Ten opponent since 2014.

Ten different Huskers recorded a kill in the match. Andi Jackson led the way with nine kills on nine swings for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. Virginia Adriano and Harper Murray each had eight kills, Teraya Sigler had six kills, Taylor Landfair and Skyler Pierce each had four kills, and Rebekah Allick, Manaia Ogbechie and Allie Sczech all had three kills.

Laney Choboy had a career-high 20 digs and added two service aces and three set assists.

Bergen Reilly posted 29 assists, seven digs and five blocks. Campbell Flynn set seven assists, playing in sets one and three.

Nebraska had the edge in kills (49-25), blocks (7-5) and digs (40-24). The Huskers had four aces and

Set 1: The Huskers terminated five of their first six swings to take a 5-0 lead. The lead grew to 8-1 after kills by Adriano and Murray and a block by Jackson and Reilly. NU went up 13-4 with Allick assisting Landfair before adding a kill of her own. Kills by Landfair, Adriano, Jackson and Murray increased the lead to 18-7. Allie Sczech fired a kill from Campbell Flynn's set to make it 19-8, and Jackson and Sigler tacked on kills for a 23-9 lead. Another Sczech kill and Sigler kill ended the set, 25-11. Nebraska hit .714 and held Illinois to .111. The Huskers had 20 kills without an error.

Set 2: Nebraska gained a little separation with a 4-1 run to go up 13-9. Adriano had two kills in that stretch, and Allick another. The Huskers led 15-10 at the media timeout after an Allick kill and Choboy ace. The lead grew to 20-13 after kills by Jackson and Murray and a block by Allick and Reilly. The Huskers scored the final five points to win 25-15. Landfair had a kill and Reilly ended it with an ace.

Set 3: A 6-0 run served by Sigler put NU in control, 9-4. Jackson had two kills, as did Pierce. Kills by Jackson and Pierce put NU up 11-5, and Ogbechie and Sczech tallied kills before a block by Sigler and Ogbechie had the Huskers up 15-7. Sigler pounded two more kills to make it 21-11, and Pierce and Ogbechie teamed up for a block before a Pierce kill made it 24-14, and Ogbechie finished it off with a kill, 25-14.

Up Next: The Huskers head to Minneapolis for a 2:30 p.m. match on Saturday against No. 22 Minnesota.
