Huskers.com
A school-record four consecutive home runs highlighted a nine-run third inning that powered the No. 16 Nebraska softball team to a 12-4 victory over San Jose State in six innings at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Saturday evening in Cathedral City, Calif.

Overall, Nebraska (10-4) homered five times in the game and scored all 12 runs with two outs. The win was the Huskers' eighth run-rule victory of the year.

NU’s five home runs in the game were one shy of the school record, and they all came from different players – Ava Kuszak, Jordyn Bahl, Samatha Bland, Kacie Hoffmann and Abbie Squier.

Kylee Magee (2-1) grabbed the victory in the circle after pitching 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out three batters. Hannah Camenzind started and allowed two earned runs and struck out five.

Mia Reynolds (2-5) took the loss for San Jose State.

NU opened up the scoring in a nine-run third inning, which saw four straight home runs. Jordyn Bahl and Samantha Bland reached base to begin the inning and a Lauren Camenzind single loaded the bases. An error then allowed three runs to score and give Nebraska a 3-0 lead. Kacie Hoffmann walked and Hannah Camenzind reached the plate on a passed ball to make the score 4-0.

Squier then started the streak of four consecutive homers with a two-run homer. NU reached the top of the order and Kuszak, Bahl and Bland posted a home run apiece to extend the lead to 9-0 going into the fourth.

San Jose State plated three in the top of the fourth to make the score 9-3.

The Big Red extended its lead again in the bottom of the fourth, as Emmerson Cope singled and was sent home by a Hoffmann home run. The Husker lead was 11-3 going into the fifth.

SJSU knocked a home run in the top of the fifth to make the score 11-4 and extend the game into the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hannah Camenzind singled and Kennadi Williams came in to pinch run for her. Hoffmann was hit by a pitch and Dakota Carter pinch ran for her before a Squier double scored Williams to lock up the 12-4 run-rule victory.

NU will play its second game of the evening tonight against Howard starting at 10 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on FloSoftball and can be heard for free across the Huskers Radio Network.
