Huskers.com
LincolnPryce Sandfort had 20 points and a season-high nine rebounds to lead four Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska remained unbeaten with a 72-63 win over South Carolina Upstate Saturday morning.

Sandfort scored 16 points of his points in a 27-8 Husker surge that erased a 12-point first-half deficit and gave the Huskers a 42-35 with 17:28 remaining after his fourth 3-pointer of the afternoon.

The Huskers, whose 8-0 start is the program’s best since the 1977-78 season, never trailed again and eventually built a 16-point lead before USC Upstate made a final run in the final 1:22 to get within double digits.

Rienk Mast added 15 points and six rebounds, while Cale Jacobsen and Braden Frager added 11 points apiece. The Huskers had eight steals, including a career-high five from Jacobsen, and held USC Upstate to 36.4 percent shooting.

The visitors set the tone early, using a 16-3 run to build a 23-11 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half on consecutive 3-poitners from Isaiah Skinner. Nebraska trailed 27-15 after Learic Davis’ basket with 7:15 left before halftime before Sandfort and Mast took over, leading the Huskers on a 17-0 surge that put NU ahead 32-27 after Mast’s 3-point play with 47 seconds left in the half.

Sandfort had all 11 first-half points in the surge, including back-to back 3-pointers in a 31 second span to force a USC Upstate timeout. The Huskers, who held USC Upstate scoreless for more than seven minutes, forced 10 straight Spartan misses before Skinner’s 3-pointer in the final seconds of the half made it a two-point game at the break.

Nebraska took the lead for good with seven straight points to break a 35-all time on baskets from Sandfort and Lawrence before Sandfort’s fourth 3-pointer capped the run. The Huskers led 56-47 with just over four minutes left before Nebraska put the game out of reach with a 12-5 run, capped by back-to-back baskets from Jacobsen to make it 68-52 with 1:29 remaining.

Karmani Gregory led four USC Upstate in double-figures with a team-high 20 points, including six 3-pointers.

The Huskers continue the homestand next Sunday, when they host Pickle Smoochers Tipoff for the sold-out contest is set for 4 p.m., and game will be broadcast on FS1 and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
