Tominaga Shoots Huskers Past South Dakota

Keisei Tominaga had a career-high 23 points to lead three Huskers in doubles figures, as Nebraska posted an 83-70 win over South Dakota Saturday afternoon.

Tominaga sparked the Huskers (5-2) off the bench, hitting 8-of-11 shots from the floor, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, while chipping in two assists and two steals in 23 minutes of work.

Bryce McGowens had 22 points, while Derrick Walker had 13 markers on 6-of-7 shooting, as Nebraska shot 46 percent used a 15-0 second-half run to build a 22-point lead and cruise to its fourth straight win.

Nebraska got off to a fast start, jumping out to an early 11-3 lead in the first 4:10, only to see the visitors come right back. USD ran off 13 unanswered points and grabbed a 16-11 lead with 12:08 to go.

South Dakota led 26-20 until Tominaga got the Huskers rolling. The junior college transfer had three 3-pointers in a 14-3 NU run, as NU built a 34-29 lead after a 3-point play from Alonzo Verge Jr. Tominaga then keyed another 9-0 run, with four straight points before finding Walker on a pair of the baskets, the last putting the Huskers ahead 43-33 before taking an eight-point lead into the locker room.

Nebraska opened the second half with a 9-3 spurt, building a 52-38 lead with 15:50 left after McGowens scored five quick points for the Huskers.

South Dakota would come back, using a 13-5 run of its own to cut the Nebraska lead six with 12:27 left after a 3-pointer from Mason Archambault. USD was within 60-53 before C.J. Wilcher's 3-pointer and Tominaga's steal and layup on the inbound pass pushed the lead to 12 and forced a South Dakota timeout.

NU would continue the run, while holding USD scoreless for nearly six minutes as the hosts stretch the lead to 75-53 with 6:25 left after a Wilcher layup.

Kruz Perrott-Hunt led three Coyotes in doubles figures with 19 points, as NU held USD to 42 percent shooting

The Huskers return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 1, as Nebraska travels to NC State. Tipoff is at 6:15 p.m. and will be carried on ESPNU and on the Husker Sports Radio.

Postgame Notes

- Keisei Tominaga totaled a career-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench. The sophomore has now been in double figures in three of the past four games. Tominaga's five 3-pointers were a season-high for a Husker and the most since Kobe Webster had seven at Northwestern on March 7, 2021

- Tominaga is the fourth different Husker to post a 20-point game this season, and second from a reserve (Kobe Webster vs. Pickle Smoochers)

- Derrick Walker made his first field goal against USD, which tied the school record with 15 consecutive field goals made dating back to Nov. 21. Walker, who missed his second field goal attempt, tied the mark of Ade Dagunduro in 2008

- Walker has now been in double figures in four consecutive games, the longest stretch of his career. Prior to this season, he had just three career double-figure games

- Bryce McGowens posted his third 20-point game of the season with 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists. McGowens tied his season high in assists with four

- Wilhelm Breidenbach posted a career-high five steals, the most by any Husker in a game in 2021-22. The last Husker with at least five steals in a game was Teddy Allen, who had five against North Dakota State on Nov. 28, 2020. As a team, Nebraska had 10 steals, its highest total since having 10 against Rutgers on March 1, 2021

- Nebraska finished with multiple 20-point scorers for the second time this season (also vs. Western Illinois)

- As a team, Nebraska had 18 assists for the fourth straight game

- Nebraska's 83 points was a season-high (previous best 82 vs. Southern)
