From D1Baseball.....how Thursday's action impacted the postseason race:

- Maryland dropped its series opener to Penn State, 8-4, at home, and is down four spots in the RPI to 39. The Terps still have a solid RPI, but the league record continues to be very problematic. The Terps are now in a three-way tie for eighth place in the Big Ten. It's extremely difficult to imagine an eighth-place Big Ten team making the field solely based on RPI.

- Illinois is probably one more win this weekend against Purdue away from clinching a spot in the NCAA Tournament (which would clinch at least a tie for the conference title). The Fighting Illini defeated the Boilermakers on Thursday and are now just competing with Nebraska for the Big Ten regular season crown with Indiana and Michigan both 2.5 games back. The Illini are 51st in the RPI and there's no way the league champion from the No. 4 RPI conference is getting left out of the field.
