Indiana took the opener of a Big Ten showdown series at Nebraska, 10-5. The Huskers carried a 5-3 lead into the ninth, only to see the Hoosiers put up a seven-spot in the frame. IU jumped seven spots to No. 55 in the RPI and improved to 13-6 in the conference, moving into a tie with Purdue for second place, just a game behind first-place Illinois.

• Speaking of Illinois, the Illini won a big series opener against Cockeye 10-5 to maintain their perch atop the conference standings and jump seven spots to No. 54 in the RPI. And Purdue won the opener of its road series at Michigan 4-0, helping the Boilermakers climb to No. 56 in the RPI. Suddenly, Illinois, Purdue, Indiana and Nebraska are all looking like viable at-large teams — and this weekend will have a major bearing on all of their chances.
