Basketball Transfer

If the coaches want him then I am behind it. Always concerned about the small college players transitioning to Power5 play. We haven't done very well with the ones we have gotten from the smaller schools.
Did you see how many small college transfers Texas Tech is using? I get they’re probably the exception, but I am not sure it’s impossible.

Definitely not an exact science. Some schools doing it better than others, us included. We have struggled. I feel we need to get players who have B1G style bodies. Webster is just too small to be a consistent weapon and gets used on defense. Lakes and Kavas were supposed to be Long Range Bombers but it didn't seem like they had the footwork or speed to get their shots off. Too 1 Dimensional on offense and liabilities on defense. Just didn't click for them. In theory Delano Banton came from a smaller school Western Kentucky but he was a Top 100 recruit. Our best transfers have been Power5 transfers Walker (Tenn) & McGowens (Pitt).

I hope we can find some answers for next season. It would be interesting to see how we would look with a Center who is more of an offensive threat away from the hoop plus could rebound & block shots.

It's a bit like football, the good 4 stars go elsewhere and we're mostly stuck with the bad ones. Same thing with small school basketball. The kids who are worth taking go to good programs

I don't understand why they think its a good strategy to take higher ranked players that suck.

Sam would have garnered a lot of attention if he had drawn this process out. Did you see all the schools that had already reached out to him? We are getting a good one.

Lots of recruits look good on paper, but there is usually a reason why they're down to us and (insert school they can't commit to) and (insert west Virginia tier football school)

It's so hard to predict how a 17-18 yr old is going to mature both physically and mentally. I grew 2 inches in college and filled out adding 50 lbs to my frame. My grandpa grew over 3 inches in college. NBA greats David Robinson and Scottie Pippen grew about 7 inches in college.

Because of the big money coming in from NIL with recruiting I wouldn't be surprised to see more parents trying to hold their kids back a grade or sending them to Prep School in hopes of getting a bigger paycheck from NIL. Seeing the NIL coin that some of these $EC & Texas schools are throwing around can really change a families financial well being.

I think Sam transferring to Nebraska is a smart move for him. As someone who grew up in Lincoln I bet he kills it with NIL even if he doesn't produce much on the court. He's a Home Town Hero returning to help the struggling program. Easy sell marketing wise.

I wasn't really making a comment on whether Sam will hit at Nebraska. He's got lots of reasons to come home vs better offers, but more generally that like Texas tech can build a team out of smaller college transfers because the best small college transfers have good basketball reasons to go to Lubbock.

I look at the offer list. When I see a 4 star with an average to poor offer list I think what is the issue with the kid. Frost has been missing on a fair amount who had a solid offer list. Pelini seemed to get more 4 stars who were down to us and a few average schools.
