Always concerned about the small college players transitioning to Power5 play. We haven't done very well with the ones we have gotten from the smaller schools.
Not at all impossible. Look at how well St Pete's is doing. Nebraska has just sucked at it.Did you see how many small college transfers Texas Tech is using? I get they’re probably the exception, but I am not sure it’s impossible.
Definitely not an exact science. Some schools doing it better than others, us included. We have struggled. I feel we need to get players who have B1G style bodies. Webster is just too small to be a consistent weapon and gets used on defense. Lakes and Kavas were supposed to be Long Range Bombers but it didn't seem like they had the footwork or speed to get their shots off. Too 1 Dimensional on offense and liabilities on defense. Just didn't click for them. In theory Delano Banton came from a smaller school Western Kentucky but he was a Top 100 recruit. Our best transfers have been Power5 transfers Walker (Tenn) & McGowens (Pitt).Did you see how many small college transfers Texas Tech is using? It's a bit like football, the good 4 stars go elsewhere and we're mostly stuck with the bad ones. Same thing with small school basketball. The kids who are worth taking go to good programsDid you see how many small college transfers Texas Tech is using? I get they’re probably the exception, but I am not sure it’s impossible.
I don't understand why they think its a good strategy to take higher ranked players that suck. It's a bit like football, the good 4 stars go elsewhere and we're mostly stuck with the bad ones. Same thing with small school basketball. The kids who are worth taking go to good programs

Lots of recruits look good on paper, but there is usually a reason why they're down to us and (insert school they can't commit to) and (insert west Virginia tier football school)I don't understand why they think its a good strategy to take higher ranked players that suck.
I wasn't really making a comment on whether Sam will hit at Nebraska. He's got lots of reasons to come home vs better offers, but more generally that like Texas tech can build a team out of smaller college transfers because the best small college transfers have good basketball reasons to go to Lubbock.Sam would have garnered a lot of attention if he had drawn this process out. Did you see all the schools that had already reached out to him? We are getting a good one.
I look at the offer list. When I see a 4 star with an average to poor offer list I think what is the issue with the kid. Frost has been missing on a fair amount who had a solid offer list. Pelini seemed to get more 4 stars who were down to us and a few average schools.Lots of recruits look good on paper, but there is usually a reason why they're down to us and (insert school they can't commit to) and (insert west Virginia tier football school)
