Big Ten 2024 Preseason All-Conference Team
by Steven Lassan, Athlon Sports
The 2024 All-Big Ten team is led by 16 selections from Ohio State, with Cockeye (14), Oregon (13) and Penn State (13) headlining the next tier of teams with the most picks on the all-conference squad.

With the release of the Athlon Sports 2024 College Football Preview Magazine, it's time to take a look at the best of the best and honor the top players in the league with a release of first, second, third, and fourth all-conference teams for '24.

An important note on the all-conference teams: These are based on how players will perform in 2024. Career statistics and awards matter in the evaluation, but choosing players for the 2024 all-conference team is largely based on predicting and projecting the best for the upcoming year. Also, team strength does not play a role in selections. These are the best individual players at each position in the league for '24.

On one hand I applaud Athlon for trying. So many reporters and Big Ten Media types struggle with this shit to the point that I don't think they even try.

However, I find myself getting triggered by these lists every season. And it rarely has anything to do with Nebraska. Here's my list of angst:

1. If Ohio State is going to throw the football like they always do there is NO way in HELL they will have two 1st Team All-Conference Running backs. Oregon or Rutgers will lead the league in rushing. They both have dynamic running backs. One of them will take the crown.

2. JT Tuiumolau has no business making any of those 1st or 2nd Team All Big Ten Teams- The league is stacked along the D-line. There could be 7 Big 10 Defensive Linemen taken in the first 50 picks of the 2025 draft. He's not one of them, and while he's a good college player, he really benefits from a D-line with insane talent at every other position. He's bascially like Nebraska's Pierre Allen from the 2009 team.

3. Xander Mueller from Northwestern literally wouldn't start for at least 5 other teams in the league. Talk about a joke of a selection.

4. Every season in College Football, there is a player who emulates the concept of the luckiest motherfucker in the history of sports. No other player in College Football can make that claim outside of Dillon Thieneman from Purdoodoo. This guy had 6 Interceptions last season. Let's talk about those interceptions. he had 2 in the Non Con off of picked balls that floated in the air. He had 1 vs. Cockeye and the worst QB in America. And then he had 3 combined against back up QBs for Northwestern and Indiana. The Boilers lost 3 of those games, and they lost them badly. He's one of the more overvallued players in the country who wont replicate that season.

5. Do we really need 11 dudes on the 3rd and 4th Team LB list?

Another once great American institution reduced to rubble due to mismanagement and idiocy. Good luck in the print business in 2024 dingle berries

QB - Dillon Gabriel, Oregon
Let me see if my memory serves me here...

Wasn't Dillon Gabriel the guy who replaced McKenzie Milton at UCF?
I mean, he followed Scott Frost's quarterback at UCF, and here he is still playing in the year of our Lord 2024 and is the all-B1G preseason QB, and meanwhile Frost moved on to Nebraska, crashed, burned and is out the game, all the while this guy is still playing college football?

Visiting some Ohio State friends this weekend. They claim if Ohio State doesn’t win national championship this year, Ryan Day is gone. Seems pretty crazy to me.

yes he started like 15 years ago

Seeing their most hated rival win it all has really pushed them off the deep end.

It would be funny if they fired him and went down the shitter like us, but The Simulation™ wouldn’t allow it.

It would be like Nebraska firing Tom Osborne in the 70's or 80's because he couldn't win the title and was losing to OU. I don't think OSU would fire him unless he had consecutive seasons of 3-4 losses. 1-2 losses means they are in the playoffs and keeps hope alive.

I think most the people wanting him gone are the online internet fan base. The Administration is smart enough to think 2 steps ahead and realize they'd have to replace him with someone better. Not too many coaches out there with a resume like Day's.

I think the Natty or bust talk is overblown for Day but he abso fucking lutely needs to beat Michigan, win the big ten, and make a run to the semi finals or better after Ohio State dropped $13 million on portal dudes
