Something I haven’t seen addressed in all the assistant coaching discussions is the possibility of McGuire moving over to coach QB’s next year. Rhule mentioned that McGuire has been working with the QB’s a bit on the sideline now that Satt is up in the box. This would allow Satt to coach TE’s (as was the original plan), allow McGuire to coach a position more familiar to him/his OC track, and make space for a new WR coach (hopefully one with deep recruiting pedigree). Thoughts?

It's an interesting thought. Might work.

I think I like it. Supposedly he’s a boy wonder (at least that’s the given reason for hiring him) and working with QBs might be a better position to allow him to share broader scheme analysis than him focusing on teaching WR technique.

And it would open a spot for a charismatic WR coach (bring back Uncle Keith) who can recruit.

Overall, the move is the least impressive which probably means it is more likely than us hiring a Peetz or some other big name.

TBH, it might help Satt also

Agreed that it is the least impressive, and it definitely wouldn’t be my first choice of possible options, but I’m starting to think it’s the most realistic given Rhule’s AC hiring track record.

Not only has Rhule spoken of McGuire and Dvoracek as if they are prodigies, they are the two guys Carolina wouldn’t release either. The Panthers had no issues with releasing Knighton and Cooper.

There are other self-confident HCs out there who hire young guys with little experience into jobs like this. E.g. Lane

Maybe to finish out the season? Sounds like a terrible move long-term.

McGuire played qb for Rhule at baylor

Makes more sense for him to be qb coach than a wr coach, especially if he is a prodigy

It's not the path I would take.

If Rhule insists on keeping Satterfield, he needs to be moved to TE's and a credible QB coach needs to be hired and tagged as the pass game coordinator in order to get any type of traction with good QB transfers/high school kids.
