Genuinely curious. I checked the few interim hires I could think of and couldn't find one (Dabo, no. Orgeron, no. Clay Helton, no).

A lot of interim guys only coach the bowl game, especially going back in time, so they don't really do much for a comparison.

#2ndChoice was not retained as HC after being named IHC, and Urban Meyer took over.

Listening to radio shows from yesterday and they all claim we need to hire Mickey now before they lose out. Cuz it’s a bad look to hire him after the season. Yeah sure whatever. If that’s a justification for hiring him that’s fucking stupid.

Then for Rhule you hire him after the season.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to hire Rhule before the seasons over if you think you lose out? Get positive media attention while you suck

Which schools are going to hire an interim head coach who has a losing record now as opposed to when he was one of the top assistants in the country a year ago?

In what world was Mickey one of the top assistants in the country a year ago? I think this is something only Nebraska fans believe. I looked through 4* lists on top assistant coaches and Mickey wasn't in any of them. He didn't even make a list of top 15 assistant coach hires of that coaching carousel, let alone top assistant coaches.

A year ago Mickey was interviewing for the Southern University head coaching job, and didn't get it. Little ole Southern University located in Baton Rouge not far from LSU, where he had been coaching. Southern hired the Prairie View A&M coach who had 4 seasons of experience as a HC with barely a 500 record. Hopefully Turd is at least as smart as Southern. Mickey has said the right things to the team and in front of the camera but there is sooooooo much more to coaching a Power 5 than just talking to reporters and the team.

It's only a Nebraska fan thing I believe. Sooooo many NU Fans are fans of only NU and not College Football in general. They watch 1 game a week and that's it. They don't see or know it works anywhere else.

I am sure other teams have the same kind of fans, but NU is really is an exception I believe. They have a different nepotistic/biased mindset towards NU.

I look at OU and how much talent they have, but how dysfunctional that program is right now. They hired Venables where he spent 12 years at OU as DC/AHC and then 10 years at Clemson being their DC/AHC....you would think he could step in be a competent HC after being with 2 winning programs and coaching at a high P5 level for over 20 years.

Well it is not working out yet, it still might, but there are serious questions about Venables as a HC. Now NU Fans want to hire MJ who basically less than 1% of the coaching experience that Venables has at the P5 level? Why?....b/c he does thing better than Frost did? Yikes man.

If MJ is to be HC, then why the heck was a search firm hired to find a HC? To do what exactly? To be paid for nothing? Maybe all the rumors of MJ becoming HC is a smokescreen and whoever will be the HC will retain MJ (and possibly BB).

This makes sense when you look at what MJ is doing (press conferences, recruiting) its like he knows he will be retained in at least the same role he's in now, if a new HC is hired.

Search firms are contracted in lots of instances to hire an internal candidate, fwiw. They're really just there to take your parameters and make a list, but sometimes the internal candidate ends up being the best one (it's unlikely in this instance)
