And so it begins...(tracking Coach Prime decommits/transfers)

While researching this, I came across this post on HuskerMax, FWIW:

Lots of references to the old "Sal is Dead, Go Big Red" story these days. This is what I know:

CU players and fans claimed there was a huge banner over I-80 that said SAL IS DEAD, GO BIG RED. Apparently, it was seen as the Colorado bus was heading to Lincoln for a football game.
Almost immediately, Nebraska Department of Roads officials claimed it was false.
No Nebraska fans or travelers saw any banner when they traveled on I-80.
The story from CU faithful has changed over the years. I have heard they saw the same signs in Lincoln and that it wasn't a banner, but a sign on the side of the road.

Personally, I don't believe the story. Never have. We are far from perfect as a fan base, but no way this happens in broad daylight.

Yeah, that was all BS made up by Colorado fans… with the amount of traffic on I80 you can’t tell me there wouldn’t be one photo that ever surfaced. And even though it was well before the days of cell phones, there were plenty of film cameras in existence…hell everybody carrier, disposable camera of some kind in their vehicle… but never seen any photographic evidence that it ever happened.

🤣
But yeah, surely there would be some evidence of it. How would you even string a large banner over the interstate? I assume you'd have to put it on those structures that hold road signs on them, which would have to be illegal as hell to cover up. State patrol would have been all over that. Makes no sense.

Colorado tried to Juicy Smolliette Nebraska. I honestly to this day have never seen a photo or picture of that phrase anywhere. Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen necessarily, but with the Nebraska authorities saying it never happened, I gotta go with that.

Yeah, I don't doubt some pockets of fans may have made light of his passing, but this was 99% urban legend for the rest of what CU fans have maintained. They wanted it to fire up the team and make it sound like NU fans are just as bad. I was a kid at those games and didn't hear any of it. I recall TO and the admin providing condolences to CU when he passed but CU fan won't mention that.

One last thing about this, Sal (RIP) was not that good of a QB. He was destined for the bench once they got Hagan who was hell on wheels.

Really, you didn’t have a some kind of camera at your disposal in the 1980s?

It wasn’t the freaking dark ages. With thousands of vehicles heading down I 80 that Saturday ya don’t think one person would’ve taken a photo of that fictional sign? I know a lot of Nebraska fans that lived in the Colorado in that area who went to every home game, and not a single one of them ever saw any such thing. If there’s no documentation, it never happened.

No local newspapers TV news casts, no fans of either side. no highway workers…nothing.
Complete BS. It was actually debunked at the time, but for some stupid reason it hangs on.

Of course I did. What I was reacting to was "everybody carried, disposable camera of some kind in their vehicle." That's a long ways from "surely someone of the thousands of cars who passed must have taken a picture." And those disposable camers peaked in the late '90s, early 2000's. I don't think they would have saturated cars on the interstate in 1989.

Kiper doubling down on Sha Doo Doo. Time will tell.
