Not even sure if he can still tie his own shoes every day. Poor guy is losing the battle with old age.
Sounded like he was fully functional and making clever remarks at the event before the OU game which made me happy to read. I was kinda surprised.

Building a rivalry

The weekend of nostalgia began 100 yards to the east — Friday night at the NU Coliseum. The 1970 and ’71 national championship reunion. Almost 400 attended, including Alberts and Joseph.

But the headliners were indisputable: Tom Osborne and Barry Switzer.

Born the same year (1937), they became head coaches the same year (1973). But their contrast in personality is what really made the rivalry fascinating.

When Switzer showed up Friday — fashionably late — he approached Osborne’s table from behind and put his hands on Osborne’s shoulders. Eventually they spent about 20 minutes on the Coliseum stage together, trading stories and jokes. Switzer detailed his fascination with Barry’s Bar and Grill. One year he even stopped the Sooner bus there after a victory.

“I always thought you were a part-owner,” said Osborne, who produced the best punchlines.

Switzer, as he always does, praised Nebraska overwhelmingly for its success in the ’90s when Osborne cranked up the option game. “We became a lot more dominant after he left,” Osborne replied.

Osborne mentioned the five straight losses to Switzer — 1973-77. “That was probably the most educational time in my life.”

Switzer had his own demons. The 1971 Game of the Century. And then the big one: 1978, when the Sooners fumbled nine times and lost six of them. “That,” Switzer said, “was probably our best team.”

Osborne noticed the pattern in their conversation. We may be old and senile, he said, “we still remember all the losses.”

For millions of people, especially in Middle America, the two titans symbolized college football. Osborne and Switzer built the rivalry that defined the sport. But they made each other, too. How many men really understood the pressure Tom Osborne felt? Barry Switzer did. And vice versa.

“It’s been a good relationship,” Osborne said. “I guess when you’ve had a lot of bullets fired at you, and some of them hit you, there’s a certain camaraderie there.”

Their most poignant moment Friday came just before the moderated discussion. NU played a highlight package of Switzer’s career. He was supposed to come to the stage, but he waited for Osborne.

When the Osborne video package began, Switzer still didn’t come up. The screen hung behind the stage and Switzer wanted to watch. So he grabbed a chair at an empty table 6. Osborne, rather than going up by himself, joined Switzer there.

For two minutes, the legends sat alone, no microphones, sharing private remarks as they watched scenes of Osborne’s career. How many more times will they sit side by side?

Sure, the individual losses might stand out in their memories. That’s what coaches do. But the far bigger loss is not seeing them together.

I’d be ok with this so long as we name Mickey HCIW and, since Mickey is a little older, further secure the line of succession by naming Jamaal Lord HCIWIW.
Solid plan

If we could make him interim coach and run the 1997 offense, I'd be all for it.

This year is fucked so let's see some counter-treys, 41 pitch, Pro 34 trap, speed/load option and option play-action. We have nothing to lose at this point.

Bigger than President?
Apparently it's not too hard considering Reagan and Biden have both done it within the past 40 years and Trump did it while being divorced from reality completely, I'd say TO winning a natty would be even more impressive!
