The CFB season is over and now on to 2025. Here are my expectations for the upcoming season.
Dylan Raiola will be much better in his second season. A full season of experience, better WRs and more importantly an excellent OC calling plays. I'm expecting a big step forward.
John Butler will be blamed for a step back on defense, but you just can't replace TR and NH. I expect a less effective defense and Husker fans will unfairly blame Butler even though it's not his fault that it's impossible to replace two bulwarks in the middle of the defense.
I expect to be confused by the use of Carter Nelson. I was confused by his use this year. He never flashed. He was put into situations that didn't suit him. Is he a WR? Is he a TE? Is he really good enough for the Big 10? None of those questions were answered in 2024 and I expect some more confusion in 2025 if he still doesn't have a defined role. And with the talent we are bringing in at WR I don't see how he'll make a breakthrough there.
Special Teams will finally take a step forward. Because it has to and Rhule will focus on it. Only a moron wouldn't address the problems and emphasize improvement there and Rhule isn't a moron.
High School recruiting will be a smaller class that focuses on top targets. I think the era of the reach is over. I expect us to shoot for the top of our list and if we miss then just backfill with the portal. There really isn't a reason to take a no star no name from parts unknown when you can literally fill your roster with actual college players instead.
Magahee will make us forget all about Umanmiellan.
Hartzog will be replaced and be a possible spring transfer out. Butler's NFL background probably pushes him to replace Hartzog with someone that has traditional measurables.
Connor Booth will get his chance to be the short yardage goal line power back to replace Dowdell. Nebraska needs one and we aren't going to use Emmett as a hammer and possibly injure him. Who else besides CB?
Anyone have any other thoughts?
