It’s not IF but WHEN
I had high hopes of getting E Rob, and still hope someone like Dennis Johnson still answers the call, but Aaron Terry potentially offers everything Terry Bradden lacked:
He has recruiting ties we can tap into right now, even if they're at the JUCO level. Bradden's NFL background didn't offer any sort of recruiting connection that benefit us. Also throw in IWCC has a ton of JUCO talent. And it's local. This could be a lynchpin that finally brings the local JUCO powerhouse that has spurned us for years into the fold. If he's been their recruiting coordinator for the past near decade, I would imagine that offers some sort of salesman saviness or ambition to find talent or at least knows how to build some bridges.
He knows what it is like to coach players at this level. If anything, he's used to taking rawer potential and refining it into something other P4 teams covet. That involves not just being a stickler to details, but knowing how to motivate. Ideally we don't bring in lumps of coal that he would have to process into diamonds here, but his experience should give him the goods in being able to coach. Terry Bradden was used to already polished players in the NFL. Writing is on the wall with his firing that he didn't get the potential out of the line that Rhule thought was there.
Also, Terry has owned his DL room for almost a decade. Bradden, on the other hand, came here as just an assistant DL coach while working with someone with a higher paygrade.
I'll also point out that recency bias with Bradden and Rhule's hat direction in the last month (along with the vacancy still being open for one reason or another) seems to make him out to be the least qualified person to hire a DL coach. Yet he plucked E Rob (GA promoted to DL), Okam (was Rice's DL coach before Baylor's), and Pot Roast (NFL assistant DL with one year of lower college DL coaching) from near obscurity back to back to back and they've all worked out well despite each one working for Rhule with different resumes. Bradden was his first college DL coach misfire in a looooong time. Rhule's hiring record at this position still looks to be pretty good, even if the last year sucked.
Again, Dennis Johnson would win the press conference and be bonafied for the position while Aaron Terry has his question marks. But I can at least see where he would be a better fit than what he had for the past year.

Strohmeier has had tens of offers to be on a P4 staff. Would it have made him immediately a better football coach if he took one of those offers?
Did Kalen Doboer immediately become a better football coach when Tom Allen hired him out of a D3(?) school?
Did it make Joe Moorhead immediately better when James Franklin hired him from the FCS?
Did Chip Kelly become immediately better when he was hired to Oregon from a lower level?
Did Cignetti’s coordinators become immediately better when they got to Indiana?
Is Donnie Raiola now better than Bill O’Boyle (I went there @slattimer) because Donnie was at a Big Ten program?
Did Chris Peterson immediately become better when he got the job at Washington?
I’m not saying that every time you have an opening that you’ve got to take a lower level guy. That’s ridiculous. What I am saying is when you consistently produce the RESULTS that far exceed the expectations of your current position it’s worth looking at.
Everybody loved Terrance Knighton and the dude had much less coaching experience than Aaron does.
I mean this with all sincerity and am genuinely curious. In your opinion why then hasn’t he moved up the ranks?

JUCO assistants don’t make a hell of a lot and probably not worth the peanuts raise to move away from home.

For the record, 3 all conference DL in one year is more than we’ve had in the last 10.
I’m not saying these kids making those teams is all Aaron Terry’s doing. But isn’t it fair to ask if he’s doing something right?
Add Nixon and Winfrey into this equation and that’s 5 all conference players in the last 5 years with two draft picks that are both still on rosters.
I know for a fact that Nebraska’s staff got tips on Winfrey before he blew up nationally and Winfrey was very interested in Nebraska until Ryan Held stopped returning phone calls.
Definitely big if. Nonetheless, the guys we are talking about demonstrate that Aaron Terry isn’t some slap dick coach.
IF we end up going this direction, 3-4 of these guys HAVE TO be a part of the deal or it’s too big of a risk IMO.
