I think they saw mINCHey as an unknown that they could get at a good value that would have to "compete" with LaQueef and allow NU to not have to pay more money to LaQueef to match mINCHey so the "competition" would be real.
Now, I think they will need to up LaQueef's money to keep him in the room. He'll likely only stay one more year then portal out if Trae Taylor does sign with NU.
This is just my thought process. I have no knowledge on actual happenings.

You’re strawmanning and associating negative connotations to anyone that correctly realizes the total portal effort so far has been insufficient in acquiring the number/quality of players necessary to meaningfully improve this team relative to the status quo of mediocrity. Considering there are a limited number of impactful players in the critical positions of need (of which we need many), the longer this program waits the options available increasingly dwindle especially considering a large fraction of portal recruiting has already been occurring since the beginning of December.
Finishing outside the top 5 of the total class rankings is not a serious effort for a team that urgently needs talent across the board right now.
If you can get away with not increasing his money then you obviously don't. But you can't lose him at this point to the portal. I think they only way you guarantee he doesn't portal is if you allow for an open competition. That's more costly to do with an established starter.

I didn’t address the core content of your post because your post also had nothing to do with what I said. I didn’t make a comment about paying Minchey $4million. I don’t know what Nebraska or Kentucky offered him and neither do you.
I agree that he's not ready to play QB at NU. I don't think he'll ever be "THE" guy at NU. I just know that you can't let him portal and have zero QB room depth. You can't have 1 scholarship QB on the roster.
The real fuckery in this is the Dayton situation. It has really messed up the room. It's actually a bigger issue than Dylan leaving and I was a Dylan supporter.
I fully agree. It would be different, of course, if he was surprised by a new offer that was bigger than he expected to get.
I am not sure if I believe Olson as I have seen other stuff to the contrary from sources that at least I consider to be reliable. But if he is right, that is a bigger problem, right? That means we can't get people to come here even if we pay the most. There have been some other alleged examples of that already.
It’s a crappy situation but it’s not an unsual situation for a lot of teams.
