1. Fair to assume that Nebraska wanted this out there after the Minchey debacle. If so, sure
this is probably true but also funny that they still only had him “committed” after the previous debacle.

It’s important to announce this guy, but also important that we continue to honor our patented 3-step signing process.

So this is something I've been thinking a lot about, and I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen anyone here discuss it.

In multiple interviews, Dana has said they didn't change the offense. So we aren't actually running Dana's offense, we're running Satterfield's with Dana calling the plays. I think this is the source of a lot of our offensive woes.

I lived in Stillwater when Dana was OC there and went to a lot of games. That offense was dynamic. It put up points and yards. I wish we'd ditch whatever hybrid Frankenstein Satterfield/Holgs offense they're running and just let Dana do his thing.
Did this happen in 2025? I remember him talking about it when he came on in 2024 and that would make sense. You can't make a big shift mid-to-late season. I don't recall him talking about this in 2025.

During one of the games this year, the announcers were talking about it. Now, announcers rarely know what they're talking about. That said, the offense we're seeing doesn't look like the offense I saw at Okie St., and the production sure as hell isn't there. So either Dana forgot how to run his own offense, or something else is going on.

The other part of this is that Dana has repeatedly said that he was “kicked out of the air raid club” for turning more to the run. So I don’t know why people think his offense is ever going to be Okie State or WVU again.

For some reason it’s much easier for fans to believe that there is a conspiracy to make Dana look bad rather than that he looks bad because in 2026 he kinda sucks.

This makes the most sense to me. It seems way, way more likely to me that the game has passed him by vs him running someone else's offense and it not working very well.

I mean, is there anything in his personality that would make people think he wouldn’t have the stones to push back against someone telling him he couldn’t run an offense he knows works so he could instead be the guy associated with an offense that struggles to score 20 points vs decent competition?

Is Matt Rhule such an alpha that he has cowed Dana fucking Holgorsen into cosplaying Satterfield without a hint of heading to the door?

It's pretty simple really. And both things can be true.

The HC has a vision of the offense he wants run and how it fits into his program. EWNMF (Rhule) wants to run the ball. Holgorsen has obviously obliged him in that regard and not trying to install full blown air raid. He's basically taken over the offense that was already installed, and basically ran it IMO. You see the same thing as before he got here, but probably not the wild variations we saw under Satterfield. We run a lot of IZ & Duo, we run screens, we run a little play action shots (spear - satterfield), a lot of curl flat, y cross, and flood.

As the year went on...it was apparent we can't protect vs shit, and he reduced what we could run to try and run something we could actually have success doing.

But I've heard there's other somethings going on...a lot of checked plays by DR or over ruled calls by the HC. No idea if that's actually true...but that's the rumor mill.

Dana is getting old. Maybe he just wanted a chill spot where he could just call plays and not worry about all the other stuff.

Rhule is simultaneously an alpha who can bend Dana to his will while being run over by a player's dad

Wouldn’t be surprised if Rhule and Dana wanted a run play and DR checked into a fade that ended with his leg broken, season over and a turnover in the red zone.

He's only 54. That isn't so old that he can't learn new tricks.

On top of that, most prolific offenses run some concepts from Leach's air raid. This dude was one of the coaches on the ground floor of the offense that changed modern college football. I don't buy it that he doesn't know how to call plays at a high level anymore. It would be one thing if he came from an antiquated offensive background and refused to adopt the forward pass, but many relevant teams use concepts he helped hone.
