we can only see about 5%, so that is not surprising
I’d say we “see” way more than 5%.
Recurring portal is more business meetings and recruiting hs kids.

We don’t see the negotiations and what teams spend but agents and players are pretty open books about where they plan to visit because it drives up negotiations.

Here's my biggest hot take of the portal...I don't think we necessarily need to take a RB out of the portal. I think if we do, we do not need to take a guy who is expected to start. This is the opposite of my take on QB...
And, ironically, this is where I'd like to see us step up and go get a top guy. I think Nelson and Mozee and be good RBs for us. But if you are able to strike and pull another all-conference level RB, RB recruiting should become so much easier. It becomes "Nebraska has great running backs," and not "a great running back played at Nebraska." If that makes any sense...

It's not the most critical piece that needs to be addressed - trenches definitely need to be the top priorities. But pulling an elite RB should be a priority as well.

Well say goodbye to 26 and thus 27 with a new ball coach.

I am telling this to myself.... do not convince yourself things will be better. We are not going to be good next year. I like Rhule but it looks like he's failing. I am no longer a member of HES nor am I a Sandy Vag.

I am simply a realist that sees Nebraska football for what it is. A fallen program that doesn't know how to get back on it's feet.

From here on out I will apathetically look on and someday we may have a big win against a team we shouldn't beat and that will be a fun day.

Thank you, Fred for giving us a phenomenal basketball team to root for.

We had that this season and it was not a factor in wins-losses. Where you see when we had a QB with P4 talent we had success, when we didn't, we were awful.

I’m disappointed in what appears to me as Nebraska either A) refusing to play the game or B) not able to play the game properly when it comes to player acquisition over the past few years, not just this current.

Nebraska calls itself a blue blood, says they have the best fan base in America and acquires talent at a Kansas St level.

The excuse of “well they have more money” or “well they are the hot team right now” shouldn’t be acceptable. Does Nebraska want to compete or not? You can not compete with this type of talent acquisiton.
Bingo. And keep in mind through all of this - we took a small HS class planning to solve a lot of problems through the portal. THAT is why people are losing it so fast on this.

We have 0 base of HS players this off-season and when impact players at positions of need are announcing left and right we aren't being mentioned, in fact we are being bumped for other visits. There is still plenty of time to make some impact acquisitions, but the optics are bad out of the gate. And we keep having those bad optics.

This doesn't mean the portal is a loss for us yet, though. I still believe very much that Rhule always has a plan. Just expectantly waiting to see that plan flawlessly enacted.

This idea of being patient because the portal is open for 2 weeks and then kids can commit after that is crazy.

The serious programs have been treating the portal as being open for the past 6 weeks. The portal opens and their guys take a visit to sign the paperwork.

The best players are in and out of the portal essentially in the first weekend.

Nebraska didn’t appear to be a serious player in the portal.

They punted on 2026 recruiting which is also INSANE.

Just a disaster.

What’s crazy to me is all these teams are getting portal guys to commit at a fairly good clip.
No they absolutely aren't.

Everyone sees a few headlines about Indiana & thinks that's happening everywhere. As of 15 minutes ago, 45% of teams haven't signed a single transfer. 70% of teams haven't signed more than 1.

A handful of teams have had been active - most of them with head coaching turnover. The #1 team in the nation & the team with the deepest pockets in the nation have been the outliers, and everyone goes full potato.

Meanwhile Nebraska is letting all these guys they had first crack at leave and visit someone else.

Once they leave they don’t seem to ever come back.
That’s the difference. Nebraska had 14 guys here over the weekend. 2 committed. Maybe there’s 1-2 more, but dudes seem to be announcing once it’s done. No point being a silent commit as a transfer.

I question the philosophy in portal talent acquisition.
