I think fans always overestimate the yield on this. Better for Nebraska to not be strung along so they can go find more realistic targets for the level of program they are right now
You’re right, which means Nebraska doesn’t have the money to compete for top end talent, won’t spend it or the better players have no interest in Nebraska regardless of paycheck

No offense to this young man, he may be a great player. But with all the options of MUCH higher caliber players, if this is the kind of player we’re going after in the portal, just shut this shit down. It kind of seems to be the case as we’re barely making noise in the portal at this point.
People like to say things like “well the guys have to be interested in the first place or the money doesn’t matter!”
Then you learn about the Texas Tech situation with David Bailey where he had zero interest when he entered the portal in going to TTU (wasn’t even on his radar) until they gave his agent a number he couldn’t ignore and magically he visits and is a Red Raider
Meanwhile we’re playing money ball to not “overpay” guys when we just lost 3 straight games to end the year by 3+ TDs each. Sounds like we might have to “overpay” some guys in spots that we desperately need fellas!

I figured your last paragraph was common knowledge to most people.
Losing out on both SDSU D-ends and losing Keona Davis today is incredibly frustrating and has me losing confidence in Rhule. There’s a lot of time yet and more talented players will pop into the portal. Unfortunately their market will be even higher and it doesn’t appear we are spending shit.

It really is. Rhule needs an A portal class to get shit turned around. Although we got Minchey and Chambliss we need a lot more than those 2.
I agree with most of this post, except the David Bailey portion - he was most definitely a hot commodity (top 15 player in the portal). He entered in the Spring, IIRC.
Yeah because when Tony White and Pot Roast left last year for FSU they took ... *checks notes* ... the absolute stud duo of Stefon Thompson and James Williams.
There's just no guarantee it plays out like that.

Yes our boosters and compliance never learn and are way behind the cutting edge schools. Then put it out there our boosters don’t want to give or are broke. Then the poorest state in the nation with two D-1 football program pays their starting DL $5mm a year.
LB room was so bad I actually wish we could’ve held on to Thompson which is incredibly sad.
