A fun breakdown of the old Husker Power S&C program

I’ve been told we were only good because we used steroids, not because we literally invented strength training.

In reality, have the best S&C program AND using steroids was a great combination.

Now everybody does both, so any advantage we’d have is minimal.

I can say with 100% certainty that we were obviously far ahead in the S&C game, but also in the Creatine game, which is basically a hair step above whey protein powder in today’s world. Not that those fellas were doing anything extreme back in the day, but the longer life goes on I’ve come to accept that getting your hands on a little extra Test probably wasn’t out of the question at the time. The quote from Wistrom on one of the BTN shows was “I’m not going to lose a football game in the fall, because you were too lazy to get outta bed for practice in the summer” so I suppose the same concept could be used for the weight room and some extra effort.

Now, what confuses me looking back at the Frost/Duval days, is that Duval learned directly under Boyd. And I’ve done the program myself for years and have also taught it for years under Zach’s brother. The base program itself doesn’t make athletes difficult to move laterally like we saw with our lineman over time. There is literally field turf movement training built into the program, as everyone can see from the video. The whole point is big and strong and quick and mobile, which we saw in its hey day. And while I personally was a very stocky 205 lb pitcher for being 6’ after doing it for 2 straight years, I was moving around extremely well on the diamond as well.

That program will always be my favorite of all time, and it is an absolute shame that Frost and Duval couldn’t figure it out in modern times
