Tim Banks has been a DC or co-DC for the last 18 years, 14 of those in either the B1G (Illinois and Penn St w/ Franklin) or the SEC (TN).

No one has a P4 defense with gaudy stats without talent, you can't hold that against him. In fact, it's a plus.
I'm just saying from a Vol follower perspective it's literally like JoBu getting poached lol. I'd give it like a C+ if Nebraska did it.

Sherman mentioned Tennessee's D Coordinator on the locked on podcast. Thoughts? I honestly very rarely watch TN and don't pay attention to their D.

I mentioned him Monday in the Bomb Shelter as one to keep an eye on.

Watch Tennessee nearly as much as Nebraska... He fucking sucks lol. Had a good defense last year built off a ton of NFL pass rushers. In my opinion the DL coach is responsible for the little success he has ever had. Would be hilarious a year after poaching Eckler too.

Tennessee (sole DC)
Year 1 = #90 (31.5)
Year 2 = #30 (22.7)
Year 3 = #22 (20.9)
Year 4 = #8 (17.2)
Year 5 = #90 (29.8)

Penn State (co-DC)
Year 1 = #39 (25.4)
Year 2 = #6 (16.5)
Year 3 = #18 (20.5)
Year 4 = #7 (16.8)
Year 5 = #55 (27.7) *covid*

Top 10 defense = 3 of 10 seasons
Top 25 defense = 5 of 10 seasons
Top 40 defense = 7 of 10 seasons
Top 55 defense = 8 of 10 seasons
Shitty defense = 2 of 10 seasons

His track record, post Illinois, stands on its own.

Rhule was pretty straightforward about how they didn't fit personally, then about how he wants someone who won't blame the players.

Wonder how much was tied to JoBu talking about needing more size in the middle of DL and blaming that for the suck.
Those were strange comments for a coach to make at any time, but during a game week I don't think I've ever heard a coach shit on his players like that

In hindsight I wonder if he already knew he was gone when he said that

I wonder how much Rhule would appreciate his DC saying "Cockeye? Their practices must be bloodbaths, man" LOL

It sounds like Rhule wants a fiery DC who can get his players playing w their hair on fire. My read is that Butler probably burned the midnight oil preparing tactics and schemes etc but sometimes you have to just motivate your troops to act like psychopaths w pads on.

When you're watching your team's defense, there should always be one guy who looks like he's on a pure cocaine/crystal meth diet (Suh, Gregory....Jared Tomich, Peter Brothers ...hell, a lot of the 90s guys). The 2025 guys looked like they were on quaaludes. Not good.

That's why I think Rhule was like "it's not about scheme" etc

Considering the sudden don't give a fuck at all our defense displayed after the UCLA game I think it might be safe to say that Jobu got the word after Imaleaving ran at will on us. And the players knew it. Something felt different starting with the Penn St game for sure. As good an explanation as any.

Lol Rhule is going to be fired after next year. He doesn’t get it and isn’t going to.

A guy with 18 years experience is ‘like JoBu getting poached’?

I’ve seen enough of his defenses to say that’s an inaccurate statement. The fact that I’ve had 18 defenses of his that I COULD have seen makes that an inaccurate statement.

I just have to wonder - how long does Seth Wallace want to sit around as HC in waiting at Cockeye? KKKirk just made it very clear, he ain't going anywhere any time soon. They have no exit plan with him, and I would have to think as a young coach the waiting could get frustrating. Come run a defense Seth

If you can have Wilcox and you don't try for him or for Knowles you are foolish. I prefer Wilcox. No matter how bad Cal might have been otherwise his defense was always good. Personally I will miss having Butler, because he was doing some good things in the back-end. Obviously based on comments there was a personality conflict with Rhule, and I worry that Snow ends up having the job full time ...

75% of our fan base wants everybody gone.
Then 75% of our fanbase are fools. Part of our problem over the last 15 years has been turnover within the staff; it kills development. Of course the corollary is that you have to make really good staff picks in the first place, which has also been a problem.
