Cortez would make a big mistake. He's talented, but he also easily could be left out of the musical chair game of ending up at a good school.
You guys aren’t seriously naive enough to think these dudes are just jumping into the portal without talking to other schools, right?
Now sometimes they might be getting misled or lied to & sometimes they might get better offers than initially promised after entering but any notable player who enters the portal will have already been in contact with multiple other schools.

Do you think players like DeColdest was talked to before transferring out, who ultimately screwed up his career by jumping to some lower end schools?
And even then if players were reached out to, its not a guarantee they'll end up at the school that tampered.
These NIL agencies/agents will do everything they can to backfill the positions they need for the next year, so they toss out such a wide net of reaching out to players on other teams to have them even think about going into the portal. But once you're in the portal, there are no guarantees of what you were 'promised' because other players will join and may have higher ceiling to take.

You understand that every team has guys leave, but it feels a little more dire when the team is underperforming and not an especially hot transfer destination, you wonder about the staff’s ability to replace them.
