School after school have proved if you hire the right guy it doesn’t take 3 fucking years to see noticeable improvement. Hell, we saw it this year Coach Ek. As an assistant, if you’re given the support and you can’t turn a room around in 2 or less years you ain’t got it.
I’m sure staff “unity and familiarity” has some value, but talented coaches that get immediate results are a lot more valuable. IMO

Seems like they struck out on A,B and possibly C. Now they’re getting desperate and whoring themselves out to whoever will use them to get a contract extension.
Maybe they get one of the 3… Riley, Huepal, Sitaki. But this is starting to look like it’s gonna be Terry Smith or someone else underwhelming.

SEC programs are going to have to start adjusting their expectations going forward with that extra conference game as well. They’ve expanded their conference by snagging some of the other conferences' better teams and are now moving toward nine conference games a year. Those eight extra guaranteed conference losses are going to have to be distributed somehow and they didn't bring in a Rutgers or Maryland type team to quietly absorb those losses either. They have their schools that are traditionally used to being doormats, but the ratio of playoff contendors to sacrificial lambs has been tilting more towards the former. Some schools with championship aspirations are going to have to understand the occasional dip in the W-L record isn't necessarily fireable.
In hindsight of this expansion. Delaney bringing in a couple big market creampuffs to maintain some balance to the Big Ten's W/L ecosystem may have actually been smart, even if it creates a couple of yawn fests here and there.

Absolutely agree, unless major changes are made HCMR is a dead man walking the next 2-3 years if ‘26 is worse than 8-4.

Yup, myself and many others said… Why? When we brought on Rutgers and Maryland. (also UCLA to a lesser degree) In hindsight, if the ultimate plan is to get to 18-24 teams then you have to bring in a few doormats. And if you can find a doormat with TV viewership value that’s gold.
SEC will definitely have to change their expectations and their MO with regards to coaching hiring and firing. A LOT of top notch programs are gonna have .500 seasons or worse in that conference and you can’t just cherry pick a new coach from another school/conference because you are the “SEC”. Schools are gonna have to retain coaches and can’t just fire someone after 1-2 subpar seasons. May have to stick it out with that coach and hope they can turn it around with the portal and NIL.

It’s a great narrative. He was 100% committed to Nebraska. But then his Alma mater started to see that the market wasn’t great.
And then they watched how Kiffin treated Ole Miss and PSU knew they needed a guy who bled blue and white and wouldn’t fuck them over.
With his alma mater in a bind, and only one man capable of fulfilling their criteria, Rhule searched his heart and decided that he had to save PSU.
And the fans revolted. But then Rhule, as always, won the presser and there was peace in the land until August ‘26.
