I know it's a premature question since technically the offseason isn't even here yet, but a lot of us have mentioned how easy the schedule was this season. Maybe the easiest in the last 10 years and it seems like a lot of people were underwhelmed to say the least about this season. I honestly didn't see any improvement this year compared to last outside of special teams.

We've all mentioned how brutal next seasons schedule is. On paper right now, it looks really, really bad. Rhule's record against ranked teams is shit. His record against Cockeye is shit. He gets pushed around by ranked teams. And he underperforms against mediocre teams.

who is that GIF

I don't see him getting fired. Before that happens he'll be given some reprieve where he replaces his staff. This will give both him and our AD some breathing room to fool folks that we'll get it turned around.

Our AD realizes he's too expensive to fire and that if you just wait for the offseason, Nebraska fans will be convinced that next year will be different. Pay a few transfers to come in, make some social media posts, fire up the light shows, and all will be forgotten/forgiven until November sets it again.

I think this is right.

But, if we’re playing out this hypothetical of what it’ll take to fire Rhule (I would given him 5 full years regardless as I hate how rarely we do that) it’ll be 4-8. This will mean that we only beat one of MSU, UMD, and Rutgers. Or we lost to someone in our weak OOC slate. That result would be so clearly in the wrong direction that it would be counter productive to continue.

Almost no chance he gets fired. The floor for next year is too high. 3 non conference games are all cupcakes and we get three bad Big Ten teams (Maryland, Rutgers, MSU). Illinois will also be down.

Doesn’t matter. Husker fans will have million excuses and they’ll high five each other for almost making a bowl game - almost three straight years

We barely beat two of those cupcakes this year

No one is happy, man. We didn’t see the improvement we wanted to see. The buyout is too big and the job would be even less attractive than before. It’s just the reality of the situation.
