We’re 7-4 and likely to be 7-5 after next Friday. Rhule has a new contract, he’s not going anywhere and we’re honestly only marginally better. Also, we potentially have a QB contraversy… I say, try to keep both QBs, I think Lateef can be convinced that he’s not ready yet, but he can be our guy eventually. Hopefully you can keep Dylan committed, but don’t hamstring yourself financially if the ask is too big. I think keeping Raiola is the ideal path, but if he and his camp are demanding too much you gotta let him walk. What I think the more important objective should be getting better in the trenches.

IMO, we need to let the chips fall where they lay with regards to our QB situation. As long as we keep 1 it’s not the end of world. Try to retain both within the context of making the entire team better. If that means cutting Donnie’s sack and losing Dylan, so be it. Our number one priority needs to being fixing the O-line and D-line. We need 2-3 o-lineman from the portal. Retain Justin Evans and get an OT and OG. Or get a C, OT and OG if Evans isn’t back for some reason. Then we need a legit NT (run stuffer) and another pass rusher on the D-line. And if you (Rhule) don’t think we can rebuild/retool the o-line with uncle Donnie, and you think firing/demoting him will cost you Dylan. So be it. Getting better upfront is too important.

Summary… IMO, We need to get better upfront on both sides of the ball and that has to be the number 1 priority above all else. And if that costs us a good QB and shitty OL coach it’s worth it. What say you? Where do we go from here…

(also kinda drunk so I apologize if this is all over map)

I’m not ready to choose yet. But door 3 seems pretty damn risky in the current climate. Also kinda think you might have the same answer to each spoiler… and it’s 💩

I just looked. 🤣 I knew they’d all be same. It’s what I would’ve done 😏

The Penn State game was one I thought would be our most decisive loss going into the season, so from the game played out about as expected from that standpoint. There is still an obvious talent discrepancy between the two programs that we’re not ready to overcome.

I’m most disappointed that we did what we did on both sides of the ball with an extra week to prepare. I understand what Butler was trying to do and that’s tweak the DB’s responsibilities to better support our front that’s obviously not ready to play at this level. We dared them to beat us with the pass and they did a great job doing both. I don’t know if we just felt their QB couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, or if the DB’s missed on their reads/assignments, but it was laughable.

On offense, we did exactly what we wanted to for 98% of the first possession. Failing to get that one in the end zone hurt. Lateef’s accuracy last night was bad. Bad bad. He’s still a true freshman, but that game should calm down the debate over who’s actually better at the position. Today.

Short week to get your shit together and go beat Cockeye. Need to solve one of these riddles sooner or later.

I agree with most of what you said, with the exception that we’re likely going to be 7-5. Fuck that defeatist shit.
I’m not one to make an excuse for Rhule but his history shows that he is a developer. Clearly it was a big mistake not going out to replace Ty and Nash. I’m sure he knows this as well.

Jeudy is ass and every other DL is an underclassmen. We’re going to be fine. Rhule is the guy.

We’re also seeing Rhule attract talent to this place that hasn’t happened really since Callahan/early Bo years.

POTY potential here

If we beat Cockeye, which we won't, Rhule needs to find a few scapegoats on his staff to cut. In my opinion, Satterfield is already on the way out due to his contract. So you have a chance to bring in a hybrid TE/OL coach who could help Donnie if Rhule decides to keep Don.

I could also see Dana moving on by his own accord as a mutual partings. But I feel that's less likely.

Defensive side is more tough to figure out.

Its really difficult to cut Butler after only being DC for one year. His scheme can work, but like Bo Pelini, his scheme works when everyone is top tier caliber talent at all levels. If your entire scheme relies on specific players hitting their specific assignment and making the play, then its not a good scheme for college football players.

So lets say Butler stays then. Williams, the DB coach, can stay. The DBs have been playing well regardless of a few key injuries. Year 2 will be his biggest determination.

LB coach? Honestly, hard to determine as well. For every time you think LBs play well, they don't the next drive or game. But they've been consistent. But not consistently saving us either. No one on the LB core has been a standout these last few years. They've been good, but not great.

Bradden, the DL coach. The DL this year has looked bad. No pass rush nor run defense. Seems like this group is the biggest WTF all season. But we also knew it was going to be a biggest WTF when Robinson and Polar Bear left. But how can you look at this group and not wonder, where did we go wrong the last few years to bring this horrible line this year? That can't be the first year coach's fault?

So that leaves Phil Snow. What does he do exactly? He came in as an advisor/associate head coach to help Rhule, but other than a few small things in terms of the general team's play, what has looked better? Nothing against Phil Snow, but this is your scapegoat for the defense side of things. He did his job that he was brought in for, but now its time to make a change here. This is where you need to bring in an experienced 'run defense coordinator' to help the DL and LB crew to stop the run game.

As far as NIL, focus on the lines for new talent. Especially a true NT and a DT or two.

Cockeye can beat Penn state cuz they have an OL/DL. Time to stop dicking around with Donnie, even NIL/transfers do nothing to help him. See if pot roast wants to get off the Tony white train & come back. Buy OL/DL/RBs.
Maybe the reason White and pot roast left had to do with talent. It’s not like FSU’s d line has been worth a fuck this year either. They have looked as bad or worse.

Wecneed minimum 5 OL and 5 DL in portal. Buy them all.
Agreed, but also need:
2 RB (EJ gone and no other P2 backs on roster)
2 TE
2 WR
3 LB (included 2 x Jack)
1-2 S
1-2 CB

I'd also like to get a good kicker. Don't trust Cunnanen. Will also need a QB if Dylan decides to take his talents to south beach or eugene

(1) Hire a proven OL coach. This program needs to get back to being known for OL, now it's our primary weakness. IDGAF how it impacts Dylan if we fire his uncle. His uncle is a liability.

(2) New DC. Running the 3-3-5 in the B10 is like when we were still running the 5-2 against Miami and FSU.

(3) Prioritize OL and DL in the portal.
