Game Thread Nebrasketball Game #1: West Georgia - Monday, November 3, 7:00pm B1G+

Some good Sunday morning hoops read to get prepped for the season starting tomorrow.
I'm ready. We need to start giving all this football money to the basketball team.
I cant make this one. Have 4 tickets in the nosebleeds if anybody wants them

It’s game day gentlemen.
No spread that I saw, but I expect us to blow the doors off of them by 40+. I don’t think we will learn anything of substance on this team until Oklahoma in 2 weeks and then the following game vs New Mexico.
Thoughts for the season
My heart:
- Reink Mast B1G POY tour starts now. Dude is going to be Jokic like this year
- March to our first tourney win starts now.
- may lead the conference in 3pa 3pm and 3pfg%
My brain
- I am worried about guard play in terms of playmaking. JLaw I have faith in but it’s DICEY after that.
- how will this team look when they aren’t on fire from 3. When they are hot they can beat anyone (see BYU game)
- how are they going to stack up on defense athletically?

I don't think its unrealistic to think Mast has a chance to be in the discussion for best player in the league by year end. If that year off doesn't linger on him too long, he's going to put up impressive numbers. Hopefully someone can figure out how to play off that and give us at least two key players.
I agree about guard playmakers (or lack there of) but I am hopeful that the rest of the roster can make up for it… the offense as you note will flow through Mast for better or for worse. I do think Reink is going to be good but I am curious to see how much we play him these first two weeks… to your point, all lanes go to the OU game in Sioux Falls in two weeks. Take care of business against UWG, FIU and UMES, stay healthy and lets see what we’ve got against the Sooners
I am incredibly exciting about the shooting potential/capabillities of this team but to your point, there will be nights when we are cold. Can we manufacture enough offense when that is the case? A lot of that burden will fall on Mast
I am incredibly excited for this season. Fred has built, IMO, what has the potential to be the best roster of his tenure to date from top to bottom. Need to perform in the non-conference and give us some breathing room in the B1G
Midland got a ton of shit at the rim. I know Nebraska rotated a lot, but Midland got a ton of shit at the rim.

West Georgia is in year two of their transition to D1 basketball. Most of their current roster includes new D1 transfers.
I expect them to probably surprise a bit early without much of a viable scouting report. And then Nebraska will pull away in the second half. Probably closer to 25 than 40.

ESPN’s book has Nebraska -22.5.
It will be the case until there is a serious rim protector on this roster. It’s been this way since Fred has gotten here, we give up 3’s and have no defensive rim presence. Honestly amazing we win as much as we do when you lay it out there like that - we just auto double the big and pray they miss 3’s with no help side defender at the rim if someone gets beat on the perimeter
It’s really mind boggling, most defenses are designed to either stop teams from shooting 3s and run them off the line, or pack the inside and force them them to hit jump shots, we don’t really do either
