I get what you're saying here. I've felt the same way but don't know how to best articulate it without sounding like a dick.
I appreciate acknowledging the kids and that it's a tradition there, but how about do it before the game? You do it at the end of the 2nd quarter where your opponent may be trying to get shit figured out. Instead they are on the spot to stop everything and wave until the moment has passed.
