How does that “grant of rights” thing work? Say 2-4 other teams pay the exit fees and bolt before FSU and the conference no longer qualifies as a P4 conference with an automatic bid for the conference champion. At what point can they no longer legally collect exit fees? Is there a point?
All hypothetical and I’m not saying that’s gonna happen or anything. Just curious how they handle a mass exodus? Technically the conference can no longer uphold their end of the deal (with the remaining teams) if they no longer qualify for an automatic bid. And I’m sure they ACC would try to bring in more teams, but if a mass exodus is happening, that means we’re in the final stages of a 2 super conference system. There won’t be enough quality teams left.

In the ACC’s case, I believe they need six (6) teams to depart before it triggers a clause that allows the league to vote to dissolve.
The remaining teams + any new teams they bring in could vote to remain the “ACC”, but I think their media rights deals are dead at that point. I mean, why would ESPN pay top dollar for what is likely to be a diluted product.

Odds are good that they become "interested parties" by trying to leave, even just in media reports, and thus their votes no longer count to reach the required numbers of schools to dissolve.

Interesting, thx. 6 teams is a pretty tall order. Some serious back alley behind scenes collusion would be necessary to make that happen. Collusion between parties that pretty much hate each other but have similar goals/aspirations. Seems unlikely…
