Would be a massive loss if he leaves IMO. Maybe I just have PTSD from the Riley and Frost hires and am scared of the unknown, but I’d rather have Rhule then to start over again and hope we get the right hire.

Has Rhule turned us into a national power yet? No. Has he turned the program around and trending towards a power after an 8 year bowl drought? I think so.
I think the thing that would be different from those hires is a competent AD

Money talks , being home talks.

But we all forget that the rhule family, including his parents have a lot of things currently rooted here.
Sharp this morning basically summarized that his family basically has all the important roots embedded here in Omaha/Lincoln now, and Mrs. Rhule will definitely have a say if it gets that far.

I dont see the Rhule angle from a PSU perspective....Franklin is Rhule, Rhule is Franklin, they both are program builders who struggle against top tier opponents. When has a program fired a guy and hired a similar guy? Its usually 180s. Not 360s when you go after a new guy.
if Rhule didnt have all these ties to PSU and Kraft he wouldnt even he a candidate i think. Nebraska needs Rhule and Rhule needs Nebraska.

Penn State does not, they need a cieling raiser. Unless they want a penn state guy that bad.

Jimbo is still unemployed raking in his money from AM.
Franklin is contractually obligated to search for work and accept any bonafide offer or his buyout doesn't pay out.

I also don't think Penn State is the type of school where you need a certain mold of HC to be successful, like Nebraska needs, due to Penn State's success the last long time.

Benning, who I would consider closest to Rhule out of anyone in the media, seems very confident he isn’t going anywhere. Believes he is going to leverage the situation to improve things in Lincoln for the players.

I hope so. Use it for leverage to up the NIL.

One thing that I think actually helps us in this instance is that they fired him now, halfway through the season. The search thus has plenty of time to be conducted, they can interview and meet candidates they aren’t currently as connected to/familiar with, etc.

If it was November 30 and they had to have a coach in the next 5 days for recruiting reasons… the Rhule/Kraft relationship would presumably be leaned on much more than in the current situation. I think they have time to evaluate and take the swings they want to take and line up something that they may not be able to have done in late November.

What is the precedent for this tho?
Has any coach ever been targeted for not finding work?

Exactly, no offense to Rhule but hes less proven and has the same issues Franklin has. You're basically hiring a program builder to replace a program builder who has never shown he can actually get over the hump, and by hump I mean winning anything at the P2 level.
Yeah we were definitely more situated to take on Rhule at a high dollar amount and hope with enough runway he can turn us into a contender because Frost left us dead behind a dumpster covered in hobo jizz.

Now maybe Kraft is all in on Rhule and will plow ahead and do it anyways, but I think Rhule will think long and hard about whether he wants to risk losing his very glowing view of Penn State and his time there by taking over the program and inheriting "Natty or Bust" expectations

I could see him wanting the challenge of going to a place that expects to play for it all every year, but I think that would come after he proves that he can build a school like Nebraska into a periodic contender.
