A lot of folks confident PSU will get a home run splash name after firing a perpetual winner. After all, who in their right mind would fire a coach like Franklin unless you’ve got someone better locked up? But we should remember athletic directors are just people and most people are dumb as fuck. Anyone remember when we hired Mike Riley? It’s entirely possible Kraft never liked Franklin, always wanted to hire his own guy and finally saw an opportunity to do so after this short skid. Hopefully for some of our fans sake his own guy isn’t the obvious one.

His list is crazy. He talks about how this hire will need to be a "seismic shift" for PSU and a big statement hire....and then he lists a couple no-name up & comers on it (that casual fan wouldn't know).

My point is that this is a PSU former player, has lots of ties to PSU people, conceivably talks to them all the time....and he goes to make his HC short list and completely leaves Rhule out. I just thought that was funny.

Rhule is kind of a Rorschach test for people: some think he's a brilliant HC/elite program builder.... others think he's mediocre, style over substance and fails to deliver in big games.

I just found it funny that on first instinct, Breneman (a PSU alum) didn't think about Rhule as a splash candidate.
He then commented on his own tweet and added Rhule. And Urban lol

there's no way PSU has more money than ND

also, is ND bound to the revenue sharing numbers that the P4 conferences have agreed to, or could they choose a higher revenue share if they want?
ND is better in every way. And I'm an ND HATER.

I really think PSU's location is a huge pain in the ass. PA and NJ put out some good players - that is it's only advantage. It's really just a pain to get in and out of. And now with the coast-to-coast nature of CFB...I think PSU is in a worse spot. As Franklin's said, they don't have an airport that they can charter flights to Los Angeles. They have to drive 2 hrs to Harrisburg and THEN fly 4.5 hrs to SoCal.

ND is in such a great spot w quick access to players in Chicago, Detroit and of course Indianapolis.

I've always felt like the PSU gig is just a pain to recruit to. They get elite players so obviously I'm not saying it can't be done. But if I'm an elite CFB HC I literally almost be anywhere else (among the top destinations).

It’ll be fun because

After every win we have the Rhule heat will turn up that much more, and we will become that much more desperate to keep him. But we will also be happy because winning

But then after a loss the heat will die down dramatically, but we will be sad. And there will be dozens of “he can take the PSU job”

Should make for elite message boarding the rest of fall

I brought this up earlier. Pedo State is in the middle of nowhere. And in today's day and age when nil rules all, their advantages of being in the Pennsylvania and Ohio football corridor mean less and less. It's a less appealing job in the nil era in my mind.

Marcus Freeman is not leaving ND for Penn State. Notre Dame has more money, a better location from a travel perspective, an elite campus, loads more history, no money share, their own TV deal and can schedule almost anyone they want. Notre Dame is a way better gig than Penn State. Frankly, the elite status of Notre Dame educationally probably helps it with nil, because players would think twice for before jumping for greener pastures elsewhere.... Spindler notwithstanding.

Was listening to Doc Talk (min 7:00) and noted I.owa fan Travis Justice was talking about how much Rhule has Dannen/NU "by the balls". More I think about, this feels like Trace Armstrong working OT to get his client (Rhule) a raise. I've never seen such a coordinated media effort to all agree on one guy. I just don't understand how the media folks don't see that they are being used to get these HCs contract extensions and raises.

I think the answer is: they don't care. Putting Rhule/Nebraska on there at the forefront does amazing things for their website traffic. Call it "cope", I'm sorry, my BS meter has been going off all day.

BTW this Rhule situation is different than Frost/2017. In 2017, Frost was the national coach of the year. He was the #1 HC on everyone's boards that year. OTOH Rhule really hasn't done anything yet at Nebraska. There's literally no reason that he should be #1 on PSU's board right now. I just don't believe it.

I think PSU is going to find this out in their search. TBF if Rhule is 5 or 6 on their board, that may be a reason they get to him.

I just think it's more trouble than it's worth. If I had a top 20 HC job & was happy, I'd probably stay there over going to PSU.

If I was at VA Tech or K-State, I'd jump in a nanosecond. But if I'm at Nebraska or Indiana, I'm not leaving for the PSU job.

1. I don’t see Penn st as a “shoe in” for a “slam dunk” hire. Gonna be tough sledding this year with a lot of big name teams will be competing for a very small number of slam dunk hires.

2. Kraft is the #1 reason it could happen. With a different AD I’d say about 0% chance of happening. With Kraft… definitely not 0%

Is that Franklin on the left there? If so, huge get for Doc Talk.

Then you have to ask yourself, if you’re PSU, do I really want to get into a bidding war with Nebraska for my 4th option. That means you’re gonna pay 1st option prices and try to sell the fanbase on the move. IDK it’s all conjecture as of now, but this is what we do… 🤷‍♂️
