When it was originally posted here it was thought to have been posted after the Penn State news broke and seen as Rhule saying he was all N. But clearly the Rhule picture was posted before the news broke so it is totally unrelated.

That's what I figured, but also realized the symbolism of a picture release means nothing, so it's why I made the comment. And even it it was AFTER the PSU news, it means nothing except I'm out to eat with my son and we decided to do the Nebraska shocker. Haha.

Even a statement or comments in his presser tomorrow, or on the McAfee show mean nothing. About the only thing that means something is Dannen announcing a contract extension being worked on with final details to be released at season's end.

My opinion by reading the tea leaves is that I don't think he's interested in leaving. I also don't think that PSU will land (or have the capability) of landing a big fish. What would make me slightly more nervous is if they're down to their 3rd, 4th or 5th selection, etc.

On this note, went to check in w former PSU player Adam Breneman who does a lot of CFB content and has a good sized following.

He did his short list for PSU and didn't even include Rhule on it LOL. He did add MR later. Just interesting that when thinking of Home Run hires, Rhule's name didn't even cross his mind.

Marcus Freeman? Good luck.

I hear Bill Belichek may be in play, though.

Marcus Freeman LMAO. Some of the others would be a step back from my perspective.

I did not read that as “ya ninja I agree.” I thought ninja was another word that I don’t think I’ve ever seen on this board 😂
Understandable. Sometimes people call me the other word becasue of my reputation for having a huge hog.

Over a school with recent championships, a recruiting machine that he inherited, smack dab in the middle of a huge recruiting hotbed that stretches from Texas, Florida, up to Georgia? Rhule is still turning N around. Debe stepped into a ready made contender, and looks to be doing fine.
I'm not saying he would, but I'd make a call.

If he goes 9-3 and Gumps are calling for his head, maybe he'd want to get back to one of his most desired head coaching spots instead of dealing with the shenanigans of being on the hot seat in 2026

His list is crazy. He talks about how this hire will need to be a "seismic shift" for PSU and a big statement hire....and then he lists a couple no-name up & comers on it (that casual fan wouldn't know).

My point is that this is a PSU former player, has lots of ties to PSU people, conceivably talks to them all the time....and he goes to make his HC short list and completely leaves Rhule out. I just thought that was funny.

Rhule is kind of a Rorschach test for people: some think he's a brilliant HC/elite program builder.... others think he's mediocre, style over substance and fails to deliver in big games.

I just found it funny that on first instinct, Breneman (a PSU alum) didn't think about Rhule as a splash candidate.

Freeman is one I hadn't thought of. That could make sense.

Marcus Freeman would be an out of the park home run hire for any school, I think he’s going to be that good. That said, I don’t think he leaves ND for anyone but his Alma mater Ohio State
More money, more NIL, easier entrance requirements (not sure how much easier).

it's hard to take him seriously when he lists Dabo and Dan Mullen. dabo is openly hostile to the new era of CFB, it would be a huge risk hiring him and hoping he does a 180. Mullen pretty much quit on Florida and hates recruiting

2nd time now I've seen Jon Gruden. Does he even want to coach?

there's no way PSU has more money than ND

also, is ND bound to the revenue sharing numbers that the P4 conferences have agreed to, or could they choose a higher revenue share if they want?

ND got 20 mill because of playoff run last year and didn't have to share with anyone. tOSU got around 3 million from combined B1G teams payout in playoffs, but then that got distributed. Then 15 million to ND for it's media rights deal. Not sure about total revenue, but guessing it's a bunch higher than PS and lower than a tOSU or Texas.

OR… Rhule got a text from his bff and was already aware of the impending news.
