In a pretty good text chain conversation... These next two games I think we are going 1-1. But I'm not sure which one scares me the most. One of my friends stated it's year 3 under Rhule, us losing a bunch to Minnesota prior doesn't matter, and we matchup well with Maryland.

My question is where people land for these next 2 games... are we bowl eligible after the Minnesota game on a short week and 6-1? If so, who is driving me across the river to pickup my over season win total bet?

FWIW, I went with Minnesota. We match up really well with Maryland, I think our defense will actually look really good against them. But Minnesota after flying home from Maryland, then having to travel there on a short week Friday game, and our track record against them recently could pose problems for us.

I will say that if we lose to Maryland we WILL NOT lose to Minnesota. We will go 1-1 these next 2. Rhule is a really good coach and we won't lose both.

Minnesota.

I don’t know why, but we find amazing ways to lose to Fleckerhead.

On Maryland, they’re not as awful as everyone thinks, so I expect a tough game.
If it's a defensive game like I think, Maryland will be close for sure.

I'm right where you are on the Minnesota game... Fleck somehow has had our number and I hate it.

I don’t think about the history with Minnesota. Rhule and essentially this whole team have not experienced it besides Rhules first game. I thought he faired well against Minnesota considering it was Jeff Sims…..

How does Dylan play?

From here on out, it’s some version of what we saw Saturday and the ‘Why?’ is a whole lot more complex than everyone wants to believe.

Regardless of the personnel combinations, TE’s and RB’s involved, we’re not great at pass pro. If he can move up in the pocket and deliver a pass down field, he’s fine. If not, and he’s got to move outside the tackles, he struggles or get’s drilled. We have some tools at the WR position that will absolutely cause problems for most of the rest of the teams on the schedule, but he has to stay upright…and some of that is on him. My man holds the ball like I’ve never seen. Really needs to reset that clock in his head.

I picked Minnesota as a loss at the beginning of the season. Not because they are a good team. Solely due to the short travel turnaround

My gut was Minnesota when I opened this, but I think I'm going Maryland, who I'm actually surprisingly confident Nebraska will beat.

But as has been pointed out, Maryland gets after the QB and forces turnovers so I can see a game where they muddy shit up and squeeze one out.

Minnesota runs the ball worse than Nebraska does and has a negative turnover margin so I'm not really sure what ole Peej's formula would be this year

I think everybody is making too big of a deal about the "travel" back from Maryland and then playing Minnesota on Friday. They're going to fly out around 8 pm Maryland time, and with the time change will get back to Lincoln by 11 pm local time.

Their Sunday will be normal. And the practice time will be the same as Minnesota the rest of the week. And then its only a 1 hour flight to Minnesota.

The only two things I’ve heard anyone talk about re: Minnesota is the game being on Friday and our history against them. Haven’t heard anything about a good player that’s scary, a unit that’s good, or anything they do particularly well. I haven’t followed them close enough, but what about the actual football team? I see FPI they’re 66th (NU is 22nd). Their defensive stats seem incredibly pedestrian. Not bad, just remarkably unremarkable. Their offense looks bad.

I think we win both. What will Minnesota do well against us this year?

I don't really care about what happened last year and I think the short week talking point is overblown.

Chat GPT likes our chances. I say we go 1-1 at best.

🏈 Nebraska vs. Maryland Prediction

  • Predicted Winner: Nebraska
  • Estimated Score: Nebraska 34 — Maryland 20
  • Why: Nebraska is favored by about 5.5 in early lines. Corn Nation+1 Maryland’s offense has firepower (especially in the passing game), but Nebraska’s defense and home/road adjustments may give them the edge. Inside Black & Gold+1

🏈 Nebraska vs. Minnesota Prediction

  • Predicted Winner: Nebraska
  • Estimated Score: Nebraska 28 — Minnesota 24
  • Why: Though historically Minnesota has had the upper hand in recent meetings (winning streak), Nebraska has momentum this season. The Gophers’ physical style is a challenge, but I think Nebraska’s passing attack and defensive adjustments will make the difference.

Give me 2-0 with both games being gross, but being able to leak games out like against Michigan State. We may not want to admit it but we may be finally turning the corner ever so slightly on the close 1 score losses and being mentally tough/disciplined enough to make them Ws now. Gimme bowl eligible about a week and 3/4s from now.
