I appreciate the opposite side of it, but I will never quote someone's high school rating as why we need to grab them out of the portal. I honestly think that's the disingenuous thing to do when you have college stats to look at. The state of Missouri literally changed NIL rules to get the Tigers to be able to pay for him early and get him to commit, paid him a wad of cash due to his ranking, and he did nothing for them. We were able to get him at a bargain due to his lack of production and his coach being here now.
There have been way more Arik Gilbert's, Markese Stepp's, Tyreek Johnson's that were 5 stars out of high school that didn't amount to really anything than 5 stars we've grabbed that have panned out, and that's why they were in the portal. Quoting high school ratings for guys you are getting out of the portal just seems like fools gold to me.
