DISCLAIMER: This is the fake thread that we used to trap the mole. This is not real.

Multiple sources are saying that Nike reps are expected in Lincoln this weekend for the Nebraska–M1chigan game. With M already being a Nike school, the timing isn’t lost on anyone.

Nebraska is still locked into its Adidas deal, but we’re told Nike has floated the idea of covering the buyout penalty themselves if NU wanted to exit early. On top of that, there’s chatter that Nike would be prepared to pump NIL money directly into Nebraska athletes as part of a broader partnership push.

The backdrop here is Nike’s frustration after losing Penn State to Adidas on that massive 10-year, $300M deal. They don’t want to miss another major Big Ten brand with history and reach.

Nothing signed yet, but the fact top exec Nike people are in town and actively sweetening the pot with NIL support makes this one worth keeping a very close eye on.

University of Nebraska leadership has been in talks with Nike representation. Including Amy Montagne President of Nike, Tom Clarke Chief Growth Initiatives Officer and Nicole Graham Chief Marketing Officer. They are fostering a deal that is 10 years $250mm, this includes matching the current $5M pledge towards scholarship funding at the university as well as an additional $200k in student athlete NIL funding annually. This nearly doubles the current contract NU has with Adidas.

Surprising considering our history with adidas, but this is really big IMO. Very solid financial terms, plus direct NIL. And the Nike brand has always had way more cache. Seems like a no brainer here especially if they’re willing to offset the exit penalty with adidas. Really hope we pull the trigger on this.

I know there were some whispers about Nebraska moving away from ADIDAS back when Frost first got the job as Frost was tight with Phil Knight and he liked Nike better.

From what I heard, there just wasn’t a feasible way for us to do it as there was still 9 figures left on that deal. It would have been a very hard pitch to convince shareholders and their board why they’re spending that level of money buying out that big of a contract.

Now? Our deal runs through 2028. So if you started in the fall of 2026 or even January of 2027 (which is in line with how a deal of this magnitude would work), you’d likely only be eating a year or maybe even a year and a half.

This makes sense that we’d be shopping about this time.

Surprising since other brands are moving to adidas

I know everyone is excited about the football jerseys but I am extremely excited for the Men’s Hoops jerseys under Nike assuming this comes to fruition. Can’t even imagine how much better those are going to be over the ones we wear now

Any sense of if Nike would push for us to host the 7-7 camp or an event similar to what Adidas sponsored here last year? It was massively successful in us getting early visits from some key players who are now coming back this weekend - would hate to lose that component

Maybe some EYBL circuit stuff too? Really good for getting in front of prospects for BBALL
