Now the season really starts. Thoughts so far:

I am not saying Nebraska cant lose, just that people are acting like our rush defense is going to be giving up like 400 yards. If that the case the seasons over, lol. No reason to worry about anything for 2025.

If the rush defense has issues, its more likely that its a little leaky but if our offense is able to dictate the pace maybe it doesnt matter. The offense would have to play better then they did vs Cincinnati, but it seems like people aren't even considering that possibility.
I get what you're saying. I think most of us are questioning if Dylan and this offense is really that good yet?
Everything was open the last 2 games and I actually thought Dylan could of been more accurate even though his stats were incredible.
Michigan is another animal on the line of scrimmage. WR's will be hit off routes and windows will close fast.
Question I have is can Dylan take over a game when needed yet?

If the defense fails and run game stalls. Can he earn that pay check yet? He would hold the coaches accountable if he was and all else failed.

Man I'm gonna take heat for this.

If we can keep Dylan upright and at least maintain some threat of a running game, we are golden. Otherwise Michigan's going to stuff it down our throats repeatedly and I don't think our front 7 will hold up.

I think that's what I'm ultimately most concerned about. There's been all this talk lately about 'balance means being able to run when we want to and pass when we want to', but I don't think we've got an offense that can run when we want to. I'm still seeing us as a team that can move the ball well between the 20s but struggles to turn trips to the red zone into touchdowns.

Michigan's got their flaws too, but I feel like that one could be the game decider.

How quick would Johnny Mitchell hit the portal if that was today? Would he have made it through fall camp?

Never would have signed if we ran that offense in today’s environment.

What about guys like Fryar? Even less successful guys like Jon Bostic probably transfer out. He could have been successful in a passing offense.

My thoughts after three weeks?

Regardless of opposition, we’ve played better football than I’ve seen from a Nebraska squad in a long, long time. One of the FS1 guys said after the game that it was hard to do what Nebraska has done the last two weeks….in practice, much less in a live game. I firmly believe these last two games have been the most fundamentally sound football we’ve seen in years. That’s great. Enthusiasm does have to be tempered because it was against Akron and Houston Christian, but clean football is clean football.

Raiola’s been very good. WR’s and RB’s, a mixed bag. Pass pro from the OL has been pretty good. Concerned about our O line in the run game. How we were unable to exert our will against Houston Christian is beyond me. I’ll dial down further and say I’m really sure what the hell they’re trying to do half the time. We don’t see much in the way of a push. Now the second group in, did a better job. I don’t think that was against HCU’s backups, which kind of confuses me even more. We’re going to struggle running the ball between the tackles against Michigan and they’ll have the speed to keep us from running outside. That’s going to be a problem.

Still not 100% sure we have as big a problem on run defense as seems to be the opinion of most. We’ve been very vanilla up front, and RVP really hasn’t played a ton. I expect Michigan to try to shove it down our throats and I’m sure Butler assumes so as well. That said, we’re really thin. Need for some of these kids to step up and be ready, as I know we’re not making it through a B1G schedule without a guy or two getting dinged up.

I’m not ready to make any crazy declarations one way or another, and won’t really have a great idea where this team is until after the game next Saturday, but there has been a lot to like getting us to 3-0. I can find things to wring my hands about if I want, but for now I’m just going to enjoy being 3-0 headed into Michigan week.

Someone who knows OL needs to help me understand how our pass protection has been extremly good, and our run blocking has been totally pedestrian

Adrian still turned the ball over a lot his freshman year. We just thought that was freshman mistake stuff and not who he was going to be his whole career.

He might have had a 3 game stretch though.

Adrian never went more than 1 week without an interception.

Now if anyone really wants to go down a rabbit hole, when was the last time Nebraska went 3 straight games with only one committed 1 turnover?

I seriously can't find it.

Looks like it was at the end of the 2022 season:

Some of it is technique, some play design, some the individuals. Not all lineman can do both at a high level.

We also do a great job with backs and TE’s in pass pro.

Really good assessment here... I have concerns, but I also have things I really like that we've done. At the end of the day, this is probably the most dominating I've seen a 2 week stretch be for Nebraska football in quite some time. We can only play who is in front of us, and the scoreboard is showing we are dominating. If it wasn't for a fluke run that should have been a 4 yard loss, we have two shutouts in a row.

I'll know more about this team Saturday night, but as of right now, we are 3-0 and have done what we were supposed to.
