The scheme was originally designed to take advantage of smaller, more agile lineman, so I could see where someone with head trauma like DiNardo could come up with that take.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule​

***Rhule reflected on Nebraska’s trip to the 9/11 Memorial while in New York City for last year’s Pinstripe Bowl. He told the team to call people they love and ensure that everyone they loved knew they loved them.

***Rhule was coaching at UCLA on Sept. 11, 2001, and he heard the news shortly after the attacks happened. He remembered a “helpless feeling” being across the country while everything was happening in New York and Pennsylvania.

***Rhule congratulated former Husker kicker/punter and now NU assistant Brett Maher for being inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame this weekend. He said Maher has been a tremendous resource since joining the staff.

***Rhule noted that there were no concerns about “letting up” this week against an FCS opponent. Their focus has all been on “improving” as a team and individually. He felt everything “got better” this week, “but you never know until Saturday.”

***Rhule said he was happy that the video of his halftime locker room speech against Akron leaked because he meant everything that he said. Saturday will be “a whole new game,” and the Huskers must go into it “expecting a battle.”

“A great week just gives you a chance, but then you have to be ready to play.”

***On his reaction to the one transfer portal window, Rhule said, “Thank goodness.” He said if players want to transfer, they generally hit the portal within the first couple of days. The longer the portal window stays open, the more opportunity there is for other schools to poach players and convince them to transfer.

On Raiola’s command, Gottula’s rise, and Hartzog’s injury​

***Rhule said Dylan Raiola was “doing a lot” of pre-snap work last year, but now he’s “doing it at such an advanced level.” That’s allowed Nebraska to give him more freedom with play calls and pre-snap checks.

Rhule has seen a lot of growth in Raiola flipping protections by reading blitzes at the line. “It’s all the same words as last year. Dana (Holgorsen) didn’t reinvent the offense. We’re just trying to do the things that he does well and what our team does well.”

***Rhule said HCU’s defense gives you “a ton of different looks,” which was similar to what Nebraska does. Getting into the right plays, recognizing pressure, and converting on third down will be critical.

***Rhule added that Nebraska’s pass rush must improve by getting to the quarterback more.

***Rhule called Gunnar Gottula “an awesome player” who probably doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Nebraska knew Gottula would start on the offensive line this season; they just weren’t sure where. He was an option at tackle, center, and guard.

***Rhule said Malcolm Hartzog, who was injured against Akron, was questionable to play against HCU. Jamir Conn played the most snaps of any NU defensive back in his place, but Rhule said the Huskers could use some different personnel if Hartzog couldn’t play.

Rhule called Conn a tough, physical, and smart player who was ready when Nebraska called his number last week.

***Rhule said Gabe Moore was long, explosive, and smart, and his development was starting to take off now that he was finally healthy again. The key is keeping Moore healthy through the rest of the season. If he’s healthy, Moore will be a fixture in Nebraska’s d-line rotation.

Considering Nebraska has roughly $6 million in NIL committed to Raiola, Key, Hunter, and Barney, it would be a gigantic fucking red flag, if Nebraska wasn't putting up big passing yards.

Also, somebody tell Quinn Clark and Isaiah Mozee that they need to stop accumulating so many yards after the catch.
