That d3 school we are playing next week is going to get it raw

The score reflected what my age group had come to expect against opponents like that. Nice to have a good ol’ beat down.

Sure has to be a confidence builder.

More importantly, it was a game where we saw so many of the kids we hear about get to play and that pays benefits down the road.

Practice reps are great, but nothing replaces experience and confidence gained taking live snaps.

A couple of things not to like about the game.

The sequence at the goal line that ended up as a turnover on downs. Really struggling to move people, and this was Akron.

Still don’t love the defense against the run game.

A ton to love about the game.

After some early self inflicted dipshittery, we scored nearly at will and that continued with backups. Can’t remember the last time that happened.

Shut out that was upheld by the backups. Again, can’t remember the last time that happened.

One thing that irrationally bugged me was the home run ball to Barney that was underthrown. It was all arm as he didn’t really step into it. Only reason it bothered me was because it’s an extension of what we saw so many times last year with guys running open, but yet they are under thrown.

This is super nitpicky though considering how so much of his game looks really strong. He makes the short game stuff look so easy, and I think we are taking that for granted. Most probably won’t realize that until he’s gone.

Also the layered throws over linebackers is just a thing of beauty every time.

I don’t think it’s nitpicky. He underthrows a lot

He’s got a couple of routes he seems to struggle with and getting the right amount of ‘oomph’ on a deep ball is one of them. The fade in the end zone is another he almost never gets enough loft on, but has had a TD with one this year.

He’s a legit arm. I think he can make any throw, but some guys just always mentally struggle with certain passes. Elway couldn’t take enough off of a swing or screen pass to make them work, and I’d say that held true to the end of his career.

For sure! Reminded me of reading the Box Score/Team Stats and seeing like 80 kids with 1 tackle.

I’m not buying the ‘we are back’ stuff quite yet, but man this felt good. For the first time in a very long time we had pulled away from an inferior team by the end of the first half and then just pummeled them for the remaining two quarter.

I’d have to see the replay, I know exactly the play you’re talking about. If I remember correctly didn’t he have a guy in his face limiting his ability to actually step into the throw?

I agree though his deep throws often come up short. I remember last year we were debating if he was doing it intentionally to draw defensive PI 😂

found it. not only was there a guy in his face, Akron rushed 7 guys vs 6 blockers so we had 1 on 1 matchups with all the WRs. he got the throw off with a free runner coming off the left tackle, AND he read it correctly and threw it to Barney on a go route matched up 1 on 1 with a safety

Idk, I still feel like he had room to step into that throw, but with how his lineman was getting pushed back toward him I can see why he didn’t. Everything else about it is impressive enough that I really shouldn’t be bitching.

He did get leveled by a defender couldnt step into the throw. Quite impressive to throw that far while getting hit.
